I've replaced them in less then 3 years from new and others have lasted 15 years or more. I guess it's according to which batch they came from. Most times you'll see some hardening within 5-8 years. I never replace just one, as soon as one starts to go the others will be following shortly...

Try shimming between the rail and the bottom "ear" of the casting. Small wedges inserted until the tightened casting sits relatively flat with the bolt snugged down should resolve your problem. You may have to do some trial and error adjusting to get them where you want them. Remember to trim...
