    ………….

I love this thread. Everyone has been super helpful. My two cents, avoid the rules. You shouldn't try to put an entire rack through a cookie cutter. It just doesn't work that way and it'll only frustrate you. Instead, in an open rack scenario, try to evaluate which balls can help you make...

So then, what was the point of this entire thread again?

You-tube ripping us off must read

It seems several people have "missed the point". Perhaps your point has changed since the original post? Erika specified posting matches to Youtube, playing in front of cameras without getting paid, and how there is $500,000 in revenue that pool players are "LOOSING [sic] OUT ON". She...

You-tube ripping us off must read

I've been in the digital advertising industry my whole adult life and can say, Erika's numbers aren't ridiculous. $500,000 is probably a fair estimate. That said, I'm just curious but, how do you expect to generate ad sales once you've moved all of these videos off Youtube? I mean, when Apple...

Centennials or aramith or cyclops? What's the best pool ball sets?

Although I respect the opinions posted here thus far, I think the primary issue here are aesthetics. I've been witness to weight, roundness and diameter measurements for several ball sets and I'm pretty sure others have done the same and posted results here. All of the brands mentioned are...

Time to get rid of the luck factor in Mosconi Cup.

There have been just as many lucky 9s made as there have been unlucky balls made on safeties. I don't think these occasional lucky rolls require addressing the format. Overall, I think play has been superb and nearly every match has yielded opportunities for both sides. In my opinion, this is...

I think this works. The test video comes through. It's not smooth but it gets the job done

Official Mosconi Cup Stream doesnt support ipad!

It looks like you have to watch it from a PC/Mac. The specs are below: http://www.pool.livesport.tv/TechnicalIssues/ I agree with everything that's been said though. I cut the cable last year and don't have ESPN. I rely heavily on AppleTV but for back-up, I have a PC also hooked-up to my...

    Mosconi Cup Day 2

I agree. I like the US chances in all of the singles matches and think they'll probably split the doubles matches. Obviously, my views are a little tainted since I'm pulling for the US team but I think they lose the first and win the next four. My big concern is, if they do lose the first...

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

I set this up again in the poolroom last night. It took me a few tries to get a legal hit. I managed to clip the 1 going two rails. That said, it's not "the perfect safety". A hit *does* exist but, given the difficulty of executing the safety is very low and getting a legal hit is very high...

Dominant eye or train to see what you see

I agree with this. I'm not an expert in how the brain processes visual information but I do know that "dominant eye" is probably analyzed a little too much. For one, your dominant eye while observing a distant object may be your right eye but you might use your left eye for pool. As well...

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

If I were the shooter and my opponent was on one foul, I'd consider the run-out. I'm not fond of caroming off balls but with BIH and a straight shot at the carom, it's worthy of consideration. You're right; after the carom, the table is wide open. With my opponent on two fouls and a couple of...

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

If you can generate the necessary speed and spin to go 2 rails while keeping the cue-ball on the table, mazel tov. As well, it's probably 3 rails, assuming you get the 1-ball off the rail and hidden behind the 8.

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

Because the 1-ball isn't moving very fast and likely rebounding directly into the 8, the likelihood of dislodging the safety is extremely minimal. You'd basically have to completely botch the shot in order for that to happen. A small bump should keep the cluster intact.

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

Like I said, give both the safety and the 2/3 rail kick a whirl. You'll be surprised by how little finesse it takes to nail the safety and how much stroke it requires to get a legal hit.

This was not APA. We're playing standard 9-ball and my player is a C+.

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

First, it's not that easy of a two-rail kick when you're jacked-up and second, you're assuming the 1-ball is going to be on the rail. It doesn't have to be. Seriously, give both the safety and the kick a try. You'll be amazed by how easy it is to eliminate the 2-rail kick too.

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

After the match, I tried this kick. In the actual game, she ended up leaving the cue ball frozen to the 8 and the 1 was frozen to the other side. This required going three rails instead of two since one side was hidden. That's a lot of speed given you're jacked-up and probably jumping that...

How Would You Play This? Safety Time

Everything stated here is precisely what I was thinking. It's the easiest safety available and it happens to be the best one. The 6/9 blocks the easy 1-rail kick. The 7 blocks the long 1-rail kick. This leaves two options. The first is jacking-up over the 8 and kicking toward the upper...
