    RIP Piper

I never looked at as if it was a ‘chick-flic’. The relationship between Newman and Laurie was more complex than superficial. I always thought it was primarily about the thin line that separates winners and losers and the fact that it’s often blurred.

    John Barton us open ban

I’m waiting for his wife to say something in one his commercials for JB cases. Even if she would just turn to him and say, “Shut the f%%k up John”.

    RIP Piper

“Look, I’ve got troubles and I think maybe you’ve got troubles. Maybe it’d be better if we just leave each other alone.” Unforgettable performance. The consummate film on life itself. It just so happened it also was about pool.

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

I’ve watched a lot on uTube. It’s slow. I agree but so are 18 holes of televised golf and professional baseball. One pocket also requires a knowledge of banks which requires a lot of trial and error to some extent.

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

There’s already a more challenging test. It’s called one pocket. Unfortunately short attention spans and immediate gratification keep players racking 9 or 10 balls instead of 15.

SJM – My Thoughts on WPA’s Actions

Welcome to the world of the most dysfunctional sport on the face of the earth. It’s so far removed from any other sport in popularity which is pitiful. I expect Pickle ball to surpass it. Cornhole already has as far as TV coverage is concerned.

    Ball Retrieval Question

In the early 60’s we had a racker named Andy. He has a carpenters apron tied around his waste to take money and make change. He was the grandfather of one of my classmates. “Rack ‘em Andy” was the call that went out at the end of a game. One and fifteen 8 ball and rotation were popular games...

    Ball Retrieval Question

For whatever reason I see very few ball return tables in Texas Other than bar tables, but that’s a different animal. I think it’s more of a “Yankee” thing. It never crossed my mind not to retrieve balls. Never played anyone that didn’t help in retrieving.

Stroke with no acceleration versus stroke with acceleration

I quit taking practice strokes when I get down behind the cue ball. I find that I hit more of a punch shot similar to Jayson Shaw and I’m just as accurate if not more so.

One Pocket Skills v Jump Cues

You mean banking and missing? No. So you’ve never tried to band a shot at “count to nine”.

One Pocket Skills v Jump Cues

I know a lot of players, particularly the younger ones, don’t play one pocket for various reason. It’s too slow, takes too long to play, you have to think, you have too many safeties, jump cues are not allowed and you need to know banking and kicking systems. what they don’t realise is that a...

I remember the first time I walked into Bananas in San Antonio. Duffy walked up to me while I was sitting on the rail and we talked about our background. Duffy brought Vivian Villarreal along when she was a youngster. One thing I will always remember is how he described degenerate road players...

There is a one pocket player who recently passed away that served time for robbery in Houston. I often saw him at Cornbreads in Houston. He was soft spoken and polite. One evening I’m watching the 6:00 news and his mug shot appears and the story of being charged for robbing women in affluent...
