What do you guys think, good idea, interesting idea, mistake?

This is about 45 mins from my house, nice place, clean, food is as good as any restaurant. I wonder why it was done though with several good rooms with enough 9 footers in the area like Snookers in RI and Yale in CT.

That location has always had 9 footers, but just recently switched to all 7 foot diamonds.
It's been a stop on the tour for a few years that I know of, so maybe just sticking with the location, even though there are only 7 footers now.
I'm going to try and get into that one and rub elbows with some guys that can play.

EDIT....My mistake. I thought this was referring to Sharpshooter's in Amsterdam. They are also a tour stop this Feb. and also only have 7 footers.
Apologies for my not reading completely.

And there is another stop on the tour in Fulton, NY in April on 7 footers as well.

Ah, so there are going to have two events on 7 footers this year. Interesting. Can't say I'm a fan of it but meh... Question is, would it make the weaker players more competitive or just make the strong players run half the set every time LOL. 9 ball on a 7 footer is not a very pro level game.

Three total, see my edit on my first post here.
....and I'm hoping that it makes weaker players more competitive. ;-)

Just a sign of the times. Many rooms are switching to mostly if not totally 7 foot Diamonds. I don’t like it / but the room owners need to cater to their customers demands -and more tables can result in higher income if you are renting all the tables.

I see most of the 9 foot table players are one pocket players anyhow - at least here in Fl. 14.1 mostly dead and 8/9 ball mostly on 7 foot tables. Just a sign of the times.

My friend is trying to get me to go to RI this weekend, the Fulton spot is a few miles from me - have hit 100 balls in the last 2 years 🤣 I'm not going anywhere

It costs a good bit of money to host a Joss event. If a room owner is willing to put it up, I don't see an issue if that room owner has 7' tables.

It seems they are trying to expand to more events and maybe those were the places that can accommodate them. The time it takes to run through the event in smaller rooms is insane, unless you have like 18 tables the wait time is hours between matches. At the Ocean State there were waits of 4-5-6 hours of sitting between rounds. Horrible for your game.

yeah, the last events I attended were at Drexeline Billiards in the mid 2000's. They were 2 day events if I recall correctly, with full 64 player fields. The owner had to put up a lot of money to host, I think all the added money of about 3k or so at the time. He only did it for one or two season, then switched to another regional tour for the next several years. This particular room was always jam packed with a waiting list of bangers on the weekends, so the tournament probably cost him a good amount of lost business. From those recollections, I'd welcome room owners to the tour, even if they don't have 9 footers:)
