Huebler rubber bumper and weight bolt

I have a new customer which has a old custom Huebler which has a damaged bumper. He would also like to change the weight. The cue is out of reach for me but remembering from my younger days-these cues had a very nice brown soft bumper which made that special nice sound when touching the floor...

    Acceptable run out for lathe

Is there any rules to how far out you should meassure? I see 1" mentioned-is this the defacto standard in the US? In case what is it in the metric world-25,4mm or something else? I thought mine was bad at 0,0006" - but that was done on a chucked up Atlas arbours shoulder... Prox 10mm from the...

what not to do as a newb cue builder

Dick, I like that stationary unit-looks very professional. I'm using a Trend Airshield Pro http://www.trendairshield.com/ but it's heavy and your neck feels it. Ok air flow but this works best for dust, not fumes. Do NOT buy the ear protectors to go-those would mechanically couple the fan noise...

In stead of glue "escape" holes / grooves

I like your idea of hiding the relief hole under the wrap, that makes it covered all the time. In case there would be a repair, the hole could be reused and no problems occur. However hiding this under some inlays or rings is not my thing. A fellow repair man blew a cues rings while installing...

In stead of glue "escape" holes / grooves

Walid point KJ. I'm not that concerned about the air-it's just to take your time. Was just wondering if the idea was any usefull since I feel some times the glue scare me.. Have been in the workshop all day and might shoot some pics of those repairs and show how it goes. I was afraid that the...

In stead of glue "escape" holes / grooves

Greg, We agree for sure on the pin install as discussed earlier. Now my point is that coring with a small diameter - all the way- would be the "escape" for both glue and air. I was just wondering if this was worth considering in stead of the other ways we do these things. I was thinking " what...

In stead of glue "escape" holes / grooves

Good points Qbuilder. I'm going to core the whole part so air and glue could escape from the cavity. At the moment it's like pulling out a cork from a bottle when test fitting which makes me reluctant to fill the cavity with epoxy and "go for it":-) Covering up the escape hole with a inlay is...

In stead of glue "escape" holes / grooves

Using my DRO I'm fond of making stuff ultra tight (not so tight as you split things...) when joining parts and installing pins. I know some of you use glue releafe (correct spelled?) holes or use a saw to make a escape path along the threads/hole. I just had a thought, in stead why not use a...

    Glue fixture

He moves the fixture to the right;-) It's not fixed to the table. I like your rig but as KJ I'm only using those normal clamps-however in cast steel. Which ever works for us:thumbup: K

    WTB 5/16x18 joint screw

Just a quick update: The owner managed to get a new pin from a source and had a fellow repair man do the removal and install. They did however run in to problems with pressurizing the forarm - most likely due to installing the pin to quickly - so they blew the rings and composite joint collar...

    W.T.B cue building lathe

If it was the setup up here-it was not shipped and did not want to separate. I don't need the inlay part. So the "local pickup only" sales is therefor not of interest.

    W.T.B cue building lathe

I'm commuting over a long distance so I'm often away from my machines. However at working location I have a lathe available, but the spindle bore is to small for butts. I'm installing leather wraps on this with the butt 1/2 through the headstock which is kind of ok, but the cues forarm gets...

    Mezz X-bumper

These is a pain where they seem to be nothing standard.. Try with M14 and then start experimenting with ID on the butt when threading. You would get in with a M14 but it takes manual adjustement. K

    Loose SS collar ..

Picture update Just thought I could add these since the cue has been received. The butt is straight when rolled, however if you turn the SS collar in the wrong direction it would make the cue wobble a little. In other words the SS collar is not true to the cue.... Pics as follows 1- Ring...

Changing pin on a warped but - what would you do?

Thanks a bunch Neil. The owner is cool since the cue was warped when I received it. He was actually not to concerned if changing the joint size did go down the drain- since it was my first "swap". Option 1 and 2 is something I was considering before the cue left me-but the owner insisted that...

Changing pin on a warped but - what would you do?

Thanks for your feedback. The cue has been accepted by the customer and he see that the wobble in the butt is causing the problems - but all in all he is OK with what I have done and can survive the warp. Since this is in the joint on the butt I was wondering if option 1 and 2 was worth trying...

Changing pin on a warped but - what would you do?

I respect your view but can't disagree more. If you go to a garage and have a mechanic change your rims to some nice alloys, do you then hold him responsible if the car don't steer straight even if the car had the front suspension misaligned or similar ? I do not agree and neither do the...

Changing pin on a warped but - what would you do?

I knocked my self in to this one during a new pin install and it was a J&B cue which could be split in 3. Have seen this before but never done a pin replacement on one - and it was a pain. The warp was in the second joint above the handle and it did show in my machine - but funny enough I...
