How to Run a South Bend Lathe 1941

There used to be some videos on this site - http://www.wswells.com/ but they have been removed. However - still some good info there. K

Lathe needed for cue maker in UK(Scotland)

Chris has a nice set of tools but for us over here it costs $ to have it $hiped. I'm using larger machinery for most of my operations but I'm currently looking in to a "almost ready to go " lathe to do repairs and some cue building operations. $hipping is a factor which kills us over here - so...

Lathe needed for cue maker in UK(Scotland)

Think your demands is though to fulfill. As far as I'm aware, there is no dedicated cue lathe manufacturer around in our end of the world so we're stuck with either mod'ing a stock metal lathe or ordering something from the US. I have gone for the first option.

I finally hooked up my dust collector. Dont laugh, lol.

I think you should investigate this a little more. I have two shop vac's which has 3 motors-moves a LOT of air and works great. One has a HEPA filter - which I can bet you money on- is keeping the fine dust in the container. Google HEPA filter and judge which puts out the most fine (harmfull)...

I finally hooked up my dust collector. Dont laugh, lol.

If your collecting dust with the unit I hope you don't have it parked in the corner by your machine? In case - all the fine dust that get's through the bags get blown back at you and THAT is not the best solution for your lungs... Edit: forgot to say that your system rely on moving air with the...

    Dust control on lathe..

Would not fit my quick change tool post - it looks like the wedge design. I have which the manufacturer called "German style" http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=119423&page=2 Might make something similar in thick plexi or something for my CNC. Cool setup though. K

    Dust control on lathe..

I think the only solution which would make this 100% would be something similar as yours or as you mention another brush on the other side. But it might be a little hard to operate. Long time since I used the CNC for this purpose but I'll do a revisit on it during December;-) K

    Dust control on lathe..

I had the exact same thing turning african black wood.... Which started my thoughts on some form of dust control. Certainly worth trying both for your health and machines:thumbup2: K

    Dust control on lathe..

Greg, I did a similar setup for my CNC for tappering, but the first design was no good. On that setup I ended up having a vaccume cleaners angled dust head (beefy industrial version) with a portion of the fluffy hairs removed where the mill passed through. However, even with that setup some...

    Dust control on lathe..

Coring dust collector It´s very frustrating to core when you use air to cool the stuff. Chips fly all over so I made this for coring. ID of the opening is larger than needed but some form of brush (those fluffy hairy things - don't know the english word for it) would be mounted on the...

    Dust control on lathe..

I hate getting my machines dirty and had been wondering on a design to keep the bed free of the dust. Not to mention saving my self for the some of the hazard we expose us for. Well, as you can see, the design is not working 100% with the router running - I most likely need to make a special...

Huebler rubber bumper and weight bolt

That would be great Ryan if you could help me out with that bumper:-) I have so far not seen the cue-but I think this is the "normal" looking ones-not the "Hoppe" style. If you could just add this in the package with the cue your working at for me-that would be fantastic. Let me know what I owe...

    Acceptable run out for lathe

Thanks for the comment. I know og course that it would get worse the longer distance you move so this is the reason for asking. I used a sanding mandrel as mentioned-which had a shoulder. The part sticking out was not 1" but that's what I had at that time. Also, I always rotate the chuck by...
