I think Poolology does actually put you on the exact shot line in many cases. You do have to be able to visualize and shoot at the designated fraction but the system gives you a near exact solution to put the ball in the pocket and not just close.

I think you are talking about two things at the same time. Your title implies poor mechanics but then you discuss "boring" strokes. I don't see them being the same thing. I don't assume a guy sucks because his mechanics are simple. It's often the other way around!
