    Keeping Cue Tips FRESH!!

I purchased a box p of 32 Elkmaster tips on sale well over a decade ago...closer to two. They are still fine. I play Snooker our Pool every day replace my snooker tip once or twice a year. However, my basement is dry and cool. Preservation may be different in a humid climate. Looking, at...

    Cue Case Components

Our thrift stores often have cue cases. Usualky $5 to $10. Often new or nearly new. Could be a $500 case or a $25 case. Last month there were a stack of various new McDermott cases for $10 each. Anyways, try getting new or used case at the thrift store and just use the ‘innards’ for your...

Is There a Way To Mute Forum Topics?

‘The politics’ Forum is American focused. I’m not American and have zero interest in the minutia of American domestic issues. It would be nice to have a greater range of posters from around the world but likely, when most first timers visit the site, they assume the ‘A’ in AZ means...

SJM Sizes Up the World Pool Championship

I agree with using traditions ball colours. I find the new colours confusing. However, I don’t know if this is because I’ve become conditioned over the years. Yes, the colours evolved for a reason. However, this isn’t necessarily because they were the best colours but rather thete were the...

Is There a Way To Mute Forum Topics?

No Idea. However, what I do is put individual posters on ‘ignore’. Takes a 2 second ‘click’. Then their postings won’t come up in ‘new’ in future. This isn’t any negative judgement on the poster but it just filters out topics that I’m not interested in. For instance I have no interest in...

Is Efren to pool what Ronnie is to snooker?

Ronnie was still a minor when his father was in prison for murder and his mother in prison for illegally running a brothel. I might not be in touch with all aspects of society but hardly an ‘assembly line’ youth.

Is Efren to pool what Ronnie is to snooker?

O'Sullivan has more natural talent than Reyes or anyone else who has ever picked up a cue. However, if Reyes had picked up a Snooker cue at age 8, I’d pick him over Ronnie. He’s a more stable personality. Reyes would have fit in well with Snooker culture. A no nonsense focus on the game.

    Tip replacement final height

My choice of Snooker tip and hockey stick. Thinking ice because 80F today and too hot. Still some snow in the mountains so that’s where we’ll be hiking tomorrow. ‘My’ ideal tip after its broken in after a month or so. Ever so slight mushroom to get Tasmanian Devil spin .I like them on the...

    Shooting Without “Aiming”

Your explanation is what happens when learning a musical instrument. At first 99% of brainpower is going into not trying be anxious and where to place the fingers or whatever .... When this onerous task is finally accomplished, you can actually start listening to the music...then you reach a...

    Shooting Without “Aiming”

I rarely consciously aim. I have my weaknesses but excellent at cross table banking shots. I never look at the pocket I’m sinking the ball into except if there is a ball in the way. In contrast, friends have a host of geometric patterns but still don’t have my success rate. It’s the same when...

Average number of games before a table should be recovered?

Same here. Plus I don’t play at home as a chore to get better to play in league. I play at home because it’s fun and relaxing in itself. I’m amused by billiard players that are never ‘in the moment’ and all play must be geared toward some imaginary world championship. I enjoy ‘messing around...

Average number of games before a table should be recovered?

Similar as far as rolling balls out. I rarely break. I make up a variety of games that don’t involve breaking. I also have games where any ball can be the cueball. I likely shoot 2 or 3 times the number of balls compared to the average player racking, always using the white, etc.

    Ronnie O'Sullivan

UK snooker players have it so good. Most tournaments are a couple hour drive away. ‘Complaining’ about the lifestyle? Ha!Ha! Ronnie has likely made more outside the tour than on it. Poor lad. The Rocket is the most talented individual to ever pick up a cue. He’s also the biggest ass in...

Average number of games before a table should be recovered?

I’ve had my Simonis covered table for 12 years. I play from a half hour to an hour 320 days a year. Cloth is almost good as new. Dry, cool climate. Basement, so no direct sun light. I break both ends. Move the rack around an inch or so. Never do jump shots or more than modest massés. No...

    Lefties vs Righties

I’m a lefty who writes left on paper but writes right on a chalkboard. If throwing a frisbee overhand then as righty but if underhand then left. Hockey I shoot left or right...likely started that when 2 years old. I can play table tennis with two paddles but tennis only as a lefty. Darts it...

    Lefties vs Righties

I’ve played guitar since I was 14. Only reason I play right handed was the guitar. I never knew of left handed stringing. It was easier at first as beginner difficulty is in finger dexterity forming chords with the left hand. However, as I progressed I never have the speed picking strings...

    Lefties vs Righties

There’s been recent ranking Snooker tournament semi finals where the final 4 players have all been left handed. The odds of that are 10x10x10x10 or 1 in 10,000 The usual explanation is that there is some connection between left handed mathematics and spatial awareness. I’m left-handed, in...

    selby's career performance

They hit their prime ‘and’ will more likely keep in the top 16 for another 2 decades if that is a priority. Selby, Robertson, Ding, Trump, Lizowski are very health conscious. Selby is going to be around for a while. He seems a stable fellow. Judd Trump could go either way ...he reminds me...

    From beginner to APA4

All is subjective. I’ve diligently played guitar for over 50 years. However, I’m a ‘decent’ player at best. In contrast at age 17, with a year experience in Judo and only a yellow belt, l was holding my own against top European competitors in my weight class. I have zero aptitude in the arts...

should aim for particular part of the pocket?

I tend to shoot to the outside of a pocket...all things equal. However I’m mostly playing Snooker and have spin on 90% of shots...my default stroke and spin are more likely to sink an outside edge ball. Centre pocket can be deceiving at times, I have sticky dots marking the centre of the...
