    8-Ball Strategy Discussion

Let me qualify this by stating that I want a novice to enjoy the game and not get frustrated. If I’m evening the odds , they should be winning as often as I am. However, if I was pure evil. Novice players will just about always try to sink the most obvious shot. When practical, I would...

Is there a version of 8-ball where...

We would play a twist on it. You could pocket any ball but then had to hit the next highest or lowest after that to keep the sequence. For instance, I could sink the 3 ball and then the 2 ,1,7,6,5, 4, 8 or sink the 3 then the 4,5, 6,7 1, 2,8.

How to Curve an Object Ball

Every so often I will see an object ball do a weird turn on my Snooker table. Usually I only notice because a ball slightly turns and sinks when I’m certain it wasn’t going to. However, can’t take credit as no idea what I did.

    Racking balls randomly

This comment isn’t meant ti be dismissive. I don’t care. Nobody I play with in league or casual is that intent on winning over just having fun playing. In fact, we’re usually quite pleased when a lower level player has a good evening and beats one of us older guys. Theress ball racking...

Is there a version of 8-ball where...

I like your creative thinking. 2/3rds of many Snooker games are like this. There is no rule about alternate shots but there still might be for a dozen consecutive visits to the table without an attempt to sink a ball. Friends and I make up all sorts of billiard games. And when playing on my...

Brothers Billiards, new kind of pool room.

Nice to see a Snooker table. I like a billiards room like this with a variety of tables. I’d be trying everything out.

Alex Pagulayan vs Kevin Clark, 14.1 at New City Billiards & Cafe

Thanks for posting this. Enjoy the pool but also refreshingly good commentary. Nice to watch two excellent players who are also good sportsman. But that music? Yikes. I’d go batty after playing 15 minutes.

    God Bless America

The English lost a colony but in an ironic way that loss helped to continue the dominance of British civilization throughout the world. The power base shifted from London to Washington. The United States continues on what Elizabeth the first started in the 16th century. The USA was like a...

    God Bless America

Thank heavens for America. We Canadians sure lucked out as to what superpower to share a border with. Major crisis in the last decade was a dispute over cheese quotas. If any of us kids ever said anything negative about Americans my mom ( from London) would pull our ear and tells if it...

Brothers Billiards, new kind of pool room.

I’m north of the border in Alberta. Just walked back from fishing on the Bow River. Mostly Browns and Rainbows. Water fast and high so spinning reel instead of usual fly casting. At the 18 minute of the video is 3 minutes out my back door. Pool tomorrow evening but all 8 ball on 9 foot...

Been using the jab stroke, wish I found about it earlier.

I use variations of the same snooker stroke for every shot. Always have whether playing pool or snooker. Almost robotic. I have nothing against the jab stroke, I just don’t need it. Tor Lowry has a good lesson on YouTube using the jab stroke. It might help depending on one’s style of playing.

Reaching the top of your game

I just turn my brain off. I also don’t care about the game outcome. I just enjoy playing. I often don’t even remember the next day if I won or lost a game. It was a fun outing with friends. Decades ago when I was 26 I knew the Snooker community quite well. I sat down with a list and...

    Changing cue weight with age

I’ve used my current Snooker cue for 14 years. I’ve never weighed it. I just know it feels right. If I try another cue for some reason, I’m more aware of the tip than the weight or anything else. At age 67 I have no physical limitations on the sports equipment I use. I don’t chose my hockey...

This guy supports the idea that all aiming systems are bogus. They only help to get you close.

Much, much too complicated to follow. Be best if you broke it down and put it on a 12 part DVD set only $99.

    ................................

Thanks for sharing. Looks good and quite creative, I cruise the thrift stores for ‘stuff’. Cashiers likely think I’m some older guy with really bad taste (which I am) but I’m usually buying something to convert, use the parts, etc for another project.

That’s the same with Chinese 8 ball. If a Chinese player doesn’t make it to Snooker Q school in Sheffield, UK then they may concentrate on Chinese 8 ball. All the top Chinese female players started in Snooker.

    Cell Phone Etiquette

In the old days you had to check your guns and knives at the door. Today it should extend to cell phones. In 53 years of playing I’ve only walked away from a table twice. The second time was last year when I was playing with 3 guys in their 30’s or so. I looked up and all 3 of them were...

    Pawn Shop Cues

I’m 67 and have never been in a pawn shop. Every time I walked by one with my grandfather in Montreal I got a lesson on not lending or borrowing money. I can still hear him in German telling me ‘If your brother or friend asks for 5 dollars, you give it to him no conditions’. When I was 10 years...

    Keeping Cue Tips FRESH!!

What’s not to like about a father who mows down a half dozen bad guys every week. In contrast, did Andy ever unholster his gun? Jgroom mentions ‘Tombstone Territory’. It’s the earliest western I can ( barely) remember. Actually I only remember the theme song and I still whistle it over the...
