To call or not to call the 9

I think 9ball is an exception you would take away some of the 2 way shot aspect of the game. 10ball & 9ball both have beauty all their own, just like all pool games. I agree Interesting idea

    Calling a Safety Shot

Yes a(any) ball No a ball must touch a rail AFTER legal contact or else it is a foul And they are correct So that if a ball drops in a pocket their opponent doesn't think they were playing that ball; and so that they don't get interrupted by their opponent asking them what they are playing...

To call or not to call the 9

So I did a search on this and came up dry. Please do tell why you feel the way you do. I am asking if ALL the rules are exactly the same how do you feeel about only having to call the 9ball?

    Asymmetric play

I have just found over the years that I stand a better chance of outshooting a better player and a better chance of outmanuvering a weaker player. Also refer to my signatuet the bottom. I also tried to give the idea in my post that if I am staring at a 95% safe vs. a 5% offensive shot I...

Do you confront people who sit on/drink over the tables?

I have been doing this for years and have never had a problem.

    banking advice

I think you know this but..... Banks have many more variables than any other type of shot that's why it's the hardest to come up with "___" system for banking that works better than any other. But you have done your homework and know that already. As Byrne said in his standard book of pool &...

    Students Responsibility

I like to hear that they have an open mind like Steve said; I also like to get the impression that they are "ready to take the nestea plundge" (fall backwards and trust me with their game). And I also like those who are more concerned with what they are going to learn rather than what they can...

    Asymmetric play

I should also give an answer to the OP and others even if he is banned, what do I do when I am up against a stronger player than I? Well when going against a weaker player than I, I outmanuver them; so when playing a stronger player I just do the oppisate I go on the offense. It is not the same...

    Asymmetric play

I do not think this is a good idea (see below) It depends on the level of player; this would not really work in upper tier play IMHO. This is the 1st thing I teach at the beginning of the strategy 1/2 of my course, it is funny how many players don't do this; you get so many benefits and 0...

    Ball in hand?

No those are the rules to "ignore" one is IMHO a little silly. When I am playing kitchen games great but when playing a BIH game it is best played with BIH. Define "more interesting" please. Who is "we" and what's the penalty? Sounds like you're talking as if "bar rules" are not absurd; I...

    Practice Game

All this time I thought I invented it; this game is almost exactly what I play sometimes (when I can get a taker), stunning that so many can come up with such a precise idea absolutely independantly.

    Practice Game

I play a version of that, it's called kisses, caroms, banks and kicks. It is fun and you get practice at all those shots you dont "normally" take. Essentially you can play a shot any way you want but is CAN NOT go straight in a pocket; if it does it is a foul. I will try this one it sounds like fun.

    McDermott M81A vs Players HXT30

I agree the McDermott is "upgradeable" like a PC with far more options and McDermott has a great reputation in its service department, I am sure the players is a fine cue and a great value but you have to look at the long term; that is where the McD blows it away.

What is the best match up you have had playing pool and won?

A friend of mine and I decided to finally see who was actually the better player; we couldn’t decide how would it be to play everything? Play for high stakes? An extended game of one thing (game; like 8ball, 9ball, bank pool etc.. etc..)? We came up with a game of 14.1 to 500 for $20 + loser...

Where Does Pure Shotmaking Ability Come From?

This has been a contention of mine for a long time; shotmaking/firepower comes from the same place in pool as it does from anything else: Talent + Knowledge + Practice = Better I taught this girl one time that is legally blind without her glasses, literally tripped up the stairs to the pool...

    Where to start?

All of this is good advice books, videos, articles etc.. will speed you toward your goals. I suggest dividing your practice time into 3 segments. 1. Warm-up 2. Drill 3. Game When you just “jump” into a practice session with no structure you don’t get the max out of it. 1) Warm-up: Take a few...
