    Tooting your own horn!

I can make wing shots all day and I'm hung like a horse!! Oh wait, this was about you tooting your own horn, woops.

    Earl mistake

Surprising miss but not that boneheaded....he put alot of inside on the ball to check it off the rail for the 8, and had a thin cut as is. I've actually seen this happen quite a bit simply because when the object ball is so close to the pocket we tend to be less careful in compensating for spin.

    Best display of shotmaking???

I would not say wingshots are a good display of shotmaking since I can make them more consistently than I can make some tough cuts. I watched Gandy Valle play in the U.S. a few years ago, and you just got the impression he would never miss. Atomic break, great stroke, incredible shotmaking...

    Another new guy here

Hey Tom, you yourself are frequently mentioned in lists of great New England players. I would add Mike Yamauchi to the names you listed as well.

Gabe and Daulton inside pool write-up

Hmm I never would've gotten it. I just couldn't stop staring at Shannon's shirt on the front cover for some reason.

Just got 99 Critical Shots of Pool

I agree that this book should be required reading for serious players. That being said, I think the concepts can be learned quicker and easier by watching good players and practicing. Pool is a dynamic game, and having things demonstrated is terrific. If you are proficient enough at the game...

No left thumb - how to bridge?

Use a loop bridge with the forefinger on the middle finger. Or use other parts of the male anatomy to form a bridge. By the way where did you find that little device? It makes me giggle.

    Al Lapena

This filipino has an absolutely killer game on par with his more famous countrymen. Does anyone know when he came over, if he is a house pro somewhere, or have any stories?

If you had your choice of these two DVDs...

For some reason there is very little good material available for advanced players. It either borders on the esoteric (The Monk Billiard Academy comes to mind) in its attempts to be advanced, or covers more basic topics that you've heard before with nothing new. Joe Tucker's products are one of...

    Am I Crazy Or What?

You got it, the little piece of cloth sends the cueball in the air a bit more. See if you can replicate the results by hitting the cueball lower or elevating very very slightly.

Bigest cinderella story to win the us open

I think Reed Pierce was a heavy underdog, I'll give my vote to him. I also don't think alot of people expected Gabe Owen to win the year he did, although he went on to win quite a bit afterwards. Thanks for the Archer vs. TK video. Its so nice to see Archer play without taking 10 minutes on...

    Schon Cues

They are production but they empty your wallet just like a custom.

Do u have to draw the ball ???

The point is not whether you would need to execute such a draw often in a game scenario. Being able to do so means you have a straight stroke and are capable of accelerating through the cueball smoothly. If you can't do it you still have room for improvement in your stroke, which will help all...

    Draw and Drag Draw

Terminology in pool is always variable and there are numerous examples of the same term meaning many other things. Just explain what you specifically mean in your application. In addition to a shot where the draw effect is gone by the time the cb and ob make contact, I've heard drag-draw refer...

    sigel varner cues

Not worth anything, neither are Sigel's "high-end" cues. You are better off getting a Player's with the same playability, or a nicer cue like a Joss, McDermott, Mezz, etc.

    Road Trip

I spent 2 years off and on the road. Its hard to find a game, harder to find one that pays enough to be worth playing, and harder still to make sure you get paid. The gambling scene among the pros is one thing. If you are trying to make a killing hustling, good luck, it won't happen. My...

    Road Trip

The road is dead. Maybe you guys could make a buck in the 70s, but I find it impossible now, even as a fairly strong player. If you play decent enough to have style at the table (a bridge, stance and stroke that makes you look like you know what you are doing), no one will gamble for any...

McDermott-The Cheap, The Good and the Outrageous

In my experience McDermotts have a somewhat soft/whippy hit. I have a light (~18oz) McD that I use when playing 9-ball on a slow-cloth table that helps me muscle the ball around. Other than that I prefer the hit of a schon/joss or something stiffer.

    Forming an Open Bridge

Although there are player that use this bridge, they are in the minority, and the bridge lacks stability compared to the thumb/index finger open bridge. It is worth the effort to make the switch. In addition to being stable, your bridge must allow you to accurately pin-point a single spot on...
