What Robert Wagner Said To Robert Mitchum In "The Hunters"...

According a reply I found using my Google Fu - George has been a reference to excellence in America since around 1900. (From "I Hear America" by Stuart Berg Flexner) and the term was popularized in the 50's because it was the catch word of comedian Jerry Lester on the popular TV show 'Broadway...

    Your worst miss....

BIH shot and for some reason I decided the best way to play shape was to line it up straight and draw the crap out of it. Jerked the shot....scooped the cue ball up and over the target ball and swish - right in the pocket without ever touching slate

    The Divide on Drills

I find drills as much of a mental challenge as a physical one. You start drills, and depending on your initial success, you are forced into a realistic evaluation of your skill level that perhaps just shooting racks doesn't give you. The next challenge for me is running the drills over and...

    APA Sandbagging

I really think the solution here would be for the APA to sanction a middle league with a higher handicap limit, but not the full on no limit. Our local league in MN, M8, does that. You have open, advanced, and masters. My team played open for many years in the same league and began to have...

Does anyone want to improve their game?

I don't get it - everyone is here *****ing about how these entitled socialist bar banging league players are the scum of the earth because they don't want to get better - they just want to win. And the complaints stem from the fact that at a handicapped tournament, you find it harder to...

Sportsbars and Pool....a Conundrum of Opposites

I think we need to look at this from the perspective of your potential 'bar' pool player. Not necessarily a league player, perhaps they play a couple times a month when they are out with friends. At a pool hall, the tables are more difficult (a subject for many other arguments), the atmosphere...

    play safe or shoot?

I had a new league teammate basically tell me the same thing when I coached him to play a safety. My response was "Then feel free to lose the match secure in your manhood."

    Redneck impact testing gone wrong!!!!

We all know this would just lead to an air hammer on a pool table somewhere trying to break a 10 ball rack

Price of Pool R U Kidding Me

Having managed a bar that had 2 vended tables, I can give you the justification for places doing it. First off - others are absolutely right, you don't put in pool tables for good players to play. You put them in so the drinkers have something to do and they stay longer. The vending companies...

Best Break on a Valley ?

Depends on the Valley - if its one of those bar tables that has been abused for years and has a huge divot on the rack spot, go 2nd ball because usually the head ball is rolling off the rest of the rack. If it racks tight I prefer the head ball break and pound it.

    8 Ball breaks

For those that are asking - the M8 league in Minnesota counts the 8 on the break as a win, but we do not play a 'rack win' format. We play a format similar to APA 9 ball where you get points for each ball (in 8 ball it's 1 for each ball and 7 for the 8 for a total of 14 a rack) so if you put...

    8 Ball breaks

I too have had back to back 8 ball breaks - and having played at the M8 tournament also, I think it was the fast diamond tables that facilitate it more. The initial hit spreads the outer balls and opens the 8 up for when the cue comes back in the 2nd time. On a lot of valleys the cue can't...

Can anyone ID this Adam cue for me?

LOL forget blowing a hole in the cloth on a botched masse shot...you might blow a hole in the slate!

Is it the rack, or the game?

This is kind of what I was getting at, as the OP in the post I was referring to felt that the magic rack gave an advantage to a 'weaker break.' OTOH one could argue that the break is a shot, just like any other (just harder), and if you have practiced a shot to always make it a certain way...

Is it the rack, or the game?

After reading the spirited discussion regarding an opponents use of a magic rack in a local tournament, I am left wondering - If the magic rack completely freezes the balls together in the exact manner that the game of 9 ball is meant to be, and everyone complains that it ruins the game.... is...
