Matchroom 2023 UK Open (nineball), 30May-4June, Winner $30K

They will know that, but remember they are promotors, promoting their own product, so want to give the impression to fans that 9-ball is all that matters and try to generate interest in their favoured discipline alone. Its understandable given the money they are investing here!

Matchroom 2023 UK Open (nineball), 30May-4June, Winner $30K

It would have to be something pretty special to get more prize money than the winner gets for most pool tournaments 😂😂😂

Snooker Champs Competing in World Nineball Tour's UK Open

Absolutely, sport (or at least individual sports such as tennis, golf, pool etc.) are all about creating a narrative, snooker had that in the 1980's (less so now) and pool manages to dig that up for the Mosconi Cup, but having snooker pro's compete is good as it creates conversations and due to...

    UK open Dynamite!

Quite a bold take! I suspect it would definitely suit Matchroom to have a '4th major' (after the US Open, World Championships & Masters), but I'm not convinced it will overtake the US Open as when it comes to prestige its more linked to history than prize money (i.e. its plausible the winner's...

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

Not normally, but I'm pretty sure there was a tournament in the 1980's that did indeed carry the scores forward, I just can't remember what it was called!

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

Yeah, snooker historically has always had long matches (the early years had matches that lasted for days), although it wasn't always single elimination, but some sort of challenge format (the history is quite interesting, but I can't remember the exact details off the top of my head). In terms...

    2023 World Snooker Championship / April 15th - May 1st

https://livescores.worldsnookerdata.com/Matches/Index/14621/cazoo-world-championship-2023 Some last 16 matches are still in play and will conclude tonight / tomorrow morning (UK time). There are usually 2 matches shown simultaneously (at this stage...in the later stages the format changes to...

    Mosconi cup

In reality though its not as that prize money has to cover all expenses, so when you factor in travel, any tour fees (there are some deductions from the prize money), any coaching costs (most top players now have at least one coach, if not two, the other being for the mental side of the game)...

Yan Bingtao Suspended from Pro snooker!

https://wst.tv/wpbsa-statement-december-12th-2022/ There have been a number of recent suspensions from the World Snooker Tour recently (the details haven't been fully disclosed, but it is strongly implied its related to some sort of betting activity), however Yan is the first real big name...

    U.S. snooker

The whole reason (or perhaps 99% of it) Judd Trump played in the US 9-Ball Open last year was to try and generate some interest and test the water for snooker. I think the WST have been desperate for a US event for a while, but they aren't yet convinced there is a market for it. That said if...

World Snooker Tour introduces player salaries (sort of)!

Ah sorry, yes I see what you mean. Yeah I think you're right, this is probably a better concept.

World Snooker Tour introduces player salaries (sort of)!

Its a different concept though, the 'show up' money is only for the big names and those big names will still demand (and sometimes get) it (although its important to note, that any 'show up' money would come from the event promoter not World Snooker Tour).

World Snooker Tour introduces player salaries (sort of)!

https://wst.tv/tour-players-guaranteed-prize-money-under-new-wst-and-wpbsa-initiative/ Not quite, but essentially it guarantees that every player will receive GBP 20,000 at least if they are on the professional tour (it is deducted from any winnings, but kept if winnings exceed this amount, so...

    9-Ball Rules Question

This actually came up in the 2015 Mosconi Cup!

Which is more popular in England? Pool or snooker!

The problem is, as others have alluded to the answers are different! Snooker is miles more popular to watch than any form of pool, but its quite difficult to find a table in many parts of the country now (also the difficulty of the game puts off most people from a playing perspective). Pool...

[WCOP] Team Philippines (Reyes / Biado) Withdraws

Ah, that does change things a bit...I guess from their perspective they had the reserve so they sort of did have a plan B!

[WCOP] Team Philippines (Reyes / Biado) Withdraws

True, but the rules were a bit weird here at the time, so even if vaccinated, a positive test for anyone on the plane would have led to the same outcome (you had to quarantine either way). The only way to be sure of making it would have been to arrive 2 weeks earlier and stay in your hotel room...

[WCOP] Team Philippines (Reyes / Biado) Withdraws

With Earl (assuming you're referring to the Mosconi Cup situation during Covid), there was nothing that could be done, UK government rules meant that he had to isolate even if he tested negative, was fully vaccinated etc. as someone on the same plane had tested positive. We can argue about...

    Emily Frazer/ 9 ball Fix

I think they are viewing snooker as Test Match cricket and 9-Ball is their T20 (I'm assuming as you're from the UK, that analogy makes sense to you :-)

    Emily Frazer/ 9 ball Fix

I'd imagine not as that game sounds far too complicated! 9-Ball is perfect for TV, which is why Matchroom chose it, it perfectly compliments their snooker offering with some fan crossover and some preferring one or the other. That is why no slower paced, more complex or more tactical games...
