    Is anyone paying attention?

Opinion My observation is that when starting out before any wood is spun beginners try to ask questions that are obvious after 10 hours of hard work. I put myself in this catagory. As an engineer I wanted to be an expert without any lathe time. Now that I have completed a dozen cues I see...

    keeping maple clean

sealer I have to agree with eric. The enduro sanding sealer is the nutz. Ive only used it for a couple of cues, but man this stuff is great. that and the airhose will be your best allies in the battle.

    Water Based Finishes

finish rep's Yeah my finish rep has nothing good to say about water based finishes either. But I also recognize that he does'nt sell much to non auto/rv markets. I have only 3 coats of the enduro on so far, but I like what I see. I will post a pic of the final product. I appreciate the...

    Water Based Finishes

I am switching to a water based finish. Considering Enduro, but open to others. I am set up to spray. Also, I have been doing several stacked leather wraps, and dye. Any problems with the dye migrating in these water based finishes? Feel free to pm if you dont wish to "put it out there" Thanks

    Offset Tailstock Pressure

Update I ended up using the pin center, and a 60 deg live ctr.....It worked perfectly. Thanks to all replies, and pm's. I was thrown for a loop with the pin already installed, and tried to overthink the solution. My engineering mind engaged before my common sence. I'm sure it was humorous...

    Offset Tailstock Pressure

I am chucking on the end of a maintenance arbor over the pin toward the end. I am working on a cue for a friend that already has the pin installed. I have not taken a pass yet, because it does'nt feel right. Yes the pin has a ctr hole. I could turn it around and use a live ctr on the pin...

    Offset Tailstock Pressure

Wondering about the pressure to a pin in a butt when you offset the tailstock to cut the taper. Do you think its negligable? I was thinking about dedicating a chuck that would allow the maintenance pin a few degrees of travel to not stress the area. Not sure if I am overthinking this or not so...

    Epoxy finish RPM

Ready to apply an epoxy finish for the first time. I have a fly rod finishing motor that is like 10 rpm. Wondering if that is too slow or ok. Any other tips would be appreciated as well. Thanks

    Inlay material Q

I was just looking for guidelines in material minimum thickness. Specifically I have mother of pearl that is about .1 thick. if I inlay a diamond at .1 deep the edges will be fairly thin after turning it down to match the cue. If i set it .1 on the edge of the diamond, won it be noticable in...

    Titebond Glue formula

Titebond Thanks for the responses. I have not had an issue with glue lines using 3, but I get the impression some have? Thanks again for the help, I am headed for the laminate glue for a few cues. I plan on updating with a few pics if I remember!

    Titebond Glue formula

I have read several posts on using titebond glues for veneer stacks. I have not read much about titebond 3. Lots of mention of 1 and 2 but not 3, am i missing something? I thought that 3 was their strongest formula (WOOD Magazine). I have used it for a couple of years in other wood projects...

    Dura Gloss Finish

Just wondering if anyone has used the Dura Gloss finish made for fishing rods. Trondak u-40 Dura Gloss is the product. It is flexible, and non yellowing. I used it on a few fly rods I made, and its really a deep looking finish. Its an epoxy finish, with a uv stabilizer in it. Looking for...

    First Joint for success

Yes I'm a college grad, so not those joints....(get that out of the way) I was wondering in your opinions, which joint combo is the easiest to master. Specifically a 3/8-10-wood, or the 5/16-18 to a brass insert. I completely understrand the right tool for the job, and good machining...

Any opinions on the best books/videos/websites out there for new cue makers to make sure they have in their library. Or let me phrase it this way. What would the be the best "Information" to start out with. Opinions of course! Chris Hightowers book? Popular videos? I have made custom flyrods...
