Vintage South West - Rare! Tulipwood w/ Maple handle

1987 South West, with letter of authenticity. 19.0 oz, two shafts, 13mm and 12.75mm (nominal). Given the vintage, obviously this is a Franklin cue. Butt and shafts are perfectly straight. Very rare South West featuring birdseye maple handle and front, with 6 staggered tulipwood points and...

    Buying a 9FT. Table

I would recommend a Diamond Pro Am. It's simply the best table I've ever played on. You can contact Diamond for a used tournament table--they'll deliver and set up. I hear the IPT may have a few available soon. Also, see if any are available after the DCC in January.

    What cue are you using?

I just looked at Skip's website and read all the information about his cue construction ... sure sounds good. Can you compare Weston's cues to South West in terms of hit, resonance, feel, stiffness, etc? What joint design are you using and/or getting on your new one?

    Trying different shafts

What is a "Kersenbrock taper?" Is it similar to a parabolic?

Ginky, do you ever seen Paul Schneider anymore?

    Influences

As for why NYC has so many great straight pool players, I can think of a couple of reasons. One, the game is still popular in NY, so it's easy to find a game. Here in SC they don't even know what straight pool is. Tonight in fact I played straight pool with a guy from Baltimore, and several...

Congrats to Larry Nevel and Tiger Products

I just read an announcement that Larry and Tiger have hooked up. I believe they made the conncection through AZ, which is very cool. Larry's a great player, nice guy and deserving of sponsorship; I'm also sure he'll represent Tiger well. Both sides benefit. Nice to see.

    What cue are you using?

I've heard good things about Skip Weston's cues, but haven't ever seen one in person and haven't hit one. But, given your preference for SW's over the years, you choosing Skip's cue is a great endorsement.

    Just something to stimulate discussion

Excellent post, Jude. The point about cueball control to minimize difficult shots is particularly significant.

    What cue are you using?

Last I saw you (granted, it was probably 10 years ago), you had a really pretty South West. Do you still have it. If not, what are you shooting with? Do you use a solid wood shaft or laminated? I hope you can make it down this way (Greenville, SC). Compared to NYC, it's incredible how much more...

    Welcome Ginky

Sorry to hear that, Shawn. I strongly recommend you pick up a book called "The Zone" by Barry Sears, PhD. It will dramatically help both your control of diabetes and weight loss.
