14.1 on diamond vs brunswick table

I play on both GC3's and a Diamond Pro. I rattle more balls in the end pockets on the Diamond, but it teaches me to be more exacting on long "up table" shots. The pockets are tighter on the Diamond Pro, I cant cheat the pocket nearly as much to achieve position. I like the GC3's mainly because...

    14.1 Primer

Another couple of ways to learn the game might be: Find a knowlegeable player to mentor you. Schedule weekly games with him and ask questions, gleen knowlege. Find a 14.1 league to play in. Study the playing styles/patterns etc of your opponents. Ask your pool room operator to bring in an...

All or cue ball foul only?

This sounds very common sense and reasonable compromise.

Which 14.1 Professional do you most emulate?

I'd love to have nothing but easy shots and defense is huge part of the game. I also admire Crane for his longevity...winning major championships in four decades I believe. Dennis

At Shooters Billiards in Burnsvile, MN we have been using a system based on Bob Jewett's article from Billiards Digest June 2003 for past couple of years. Works well for us. Who's Style and Why ? In 14.1

I have watched the Crane/Balsis match many times, and Irving Crane is a personal favorite. However, if I could take over anyone's stroke it would have to be Steve Mizerak. I have seen him, on video, get out of many tight jams with fantastic long draw shots. So my favorites would be: 1. Steve...

Pace of play in 14.1 leagues

Thanks for your comments. For me, personally, it is very difficult to play extremely slow paced. I have been in a few matches (ahead in points) where I unscrewed my cue out of frustration with slow play by my opponent. I dont play fast...just steady. I kept track of my last 10 100 point games...

Pace of play in 14.1 leagues

I would like to hear ideas from 14.1 league players on how the pace of play is controlled in their league games. I thought of giving expectations of game duration on start of season. ie: 80 point match should not take more than 1.5 hrs normally, 100 point match shouldnt take more than 1.75 hrs...

    fool hall

Matt; About 5 years ago I had my choice of 5 pool rooms in the south suburban metro Mpls area, now only 2 exist. But I have to add that other factors such as local business economy, and lack of indivdual expendable income also contribute to the pool room closings. -Dennis

    Pool Or Snooker?

In my area, the overwhelming majority of snooker tables (yes, there are a few) are used to play "golf" on. Rarely see the red balls used.
