Games of pool and their level of LUCK

If luck means scoring unintentional balls, then one pocket leads all the games in luck IMO. How many times do we kick off the long rail into the rack, or we shoot an opponent's ball two rails into the rack and balls fall for us. Now don't get me wrong, I love one pocket neck and neck to...

Games of pool and their level of LUCK

Well first of all you need to consider most of these games you mention are played in sets. While its true anyone can win a single game against anyone else, its sort of a moot point since they aren't played that way. Now in a set, the better player will practically always win Interestingly...

How to evaluate my progress? 9-ball vs BU exam (or others?)

Thank you ....I didn't have to read far to find what I was about to write. This is the way to go. What do you learn of progress if the balls fall lucky a half dozen times, the 9 goes on the break a few times and lays near a pocket a few times. The game is a joke. It's a gambling game and you...

Songs that make you think about pool

I don't know if this was done before, but I thought this might be interesting to fool around with. What songs make you think about pool. It would be nice to put a playlist of songs together and play it while playing pool. While songs with pool mention or pool connotations in the lyrics are...

    Physics question

Ha .. here's how shot I am, I totally misunderstood the question. Here I am thinking you are dropping the cue out of your hand with the tip facing down toward the floor like you were trying to spear a spider walking across the floor. Now that I understand .... I completely concur with all...

    Physics question

Doesn't it accelerate until it reaches terminal velocity? I dunno ... but I think how far it is dropped from makes a difference regarding how fast it goes until it gets to that speed. :scratchhead: LOL, don't go by me though ...

    Calling All Pool Scientists

I'm not a pool scientist, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, and I know that when you double an insignificant amount it becomes twice as insignificant. For God's sake man ... everybody know that. :scratchhead::shrug:

How much difference does a stroke make.

Not quite sure where that came from, the man just offered some accurate insight, and rather than absorb it, you misconstrued it.

    Not ashamed...

I give you a lot of credit for having the patience to go through all that. I have a GC3 in my basement, and if a buddy doesn't call me to play some straight pool or one pocket, that table sits idle. If I tried to go down to practice it would go like this...... 5 or 6 serious, focused shots...

    Straight pool rule question

Please don't bastardize straight pool. None of you guys play it anyway, so please leave the purest form of pool pure for those of us who appreciate it.

    I'm getting tired of slumps

IMO slumps are about 75% fundamentals and 25% desire when you are a C player, or there about. Those percentages begin to invert as you become a more seasoned and knowledgeable player on a sliding scale. So, you know your skill level better than anyone. That will determine the area that needs...

    Measuring one's skill level

That sounds like fun. I assume the break is free then running all the remaining balls in 1 inning would be a strike regardless if a ball went in on the break or not. Missing once gives you the first half number for a possible spare. Completing the rest of the balls without a miss results in a...

    FREE Streaming TV Matches

This must be a trick question. Anyway, it seems you want input. I would watch one pocket and straight pool. Even 8 ball on a full size table. I'd have no interest, and never do watch rotation on youtube or anywhere else for any significant amount of time. I find it redundant and boring...

    Does a touch of outside...

Of course it does, you're rolling across the OB rather than rubbing across it. Missing the shot because of english...... any english, is an entirely different subject.

Albin Ouchan right-handed left-eye dominant cueing.

I'm cross dominant, right handed and left eyed. I said this before and I swear for sure ... 100% that I read the following years ago in either Billiard Digest or Pool and Billiard Mag. Someone in some tech article was discussing cross dominance and said, it was a good thing, since anyone who...

    Measuring one's skill level

I'm not sure I understand that statement. Well it certainly would ultimately be a subject that can be argumentative, but, 9 ball isn't even a little tougher, its far easier a game on so many levels IMO. First, besides the last 4 or 5 balls in straight pool there are all kinds of clusters to...

    Measuring one's skill level

I came across this little chart in a book I had buried in the corner of my room today and I thought some may find it interesting. The book, btw, was A Mind For Pool by Capelle. Now I'm old school, so much so that I don't really even enjoy 9 ball. So, it makes me cringe when I read about...

    Back stroke and follow through?

Didn't read the entire thread, but I like that analogy. Edit... I'd like to add, these are very very subtle touch sensations with a slight further loosening of the grip on follow through. At least for me. :)

    Lee Brett Video

Yeah, going off line is the logical conclusion, but do righties under cut the shot and lefties over cut it then? LOL ... I dunno. Loveto get Lees take on this too.
