Well, the bottom middle of the cue ball, where it touches the table is dead center on the vertical axis, which may aid in proper shot alignment and avoiding unintended side spin which can throw the OB off causing you to miss. Watch Efren, lots of times he cues and aligns with draw, right...

I like to look through the Muellers website, only because they give a nice photo of the tips and the hardness rating. They are not the best prices, but there are plenty of layered tips ... even on that website for under 7 bucks. Once you find one you're interested in, most likely you can...

I'll offer two suggestions ... First, if you feel like trying something different, I'd actually go with a hard tip since you have experienced the soft, you will get the opportunity to experience the other end of the spectrum, the hard tips, then there will be a playing field or gauge to fall...

For me ... the last way is the easiest. Comes up a lot in straight pool and 1pkt. You just have to be aware of your speed, and target on the rail. You can shoot much softer, much more reliable IMO.

You may be able to shim the lower slate up from under the table with a wood wedge and a light tap. This has happened to my GC also, (slate that is ... never felt it was wax) anyway the best cure so far before installing the cloth is to use a playing card or something similar between the slates...

Ah, well you never mentioned cleaning them with anything but water. The skid works both ways , too much friction from the ball, (ie cleaning with water) or, too little friction from the cloth, thats why I asked what cloth you used to have. I thought you might not be used to the 860s...

I'd suggest the Aramith ball cleaner, it will help reduce a bit of friction that wiping them with water might promote a bit. I'm curious what cloth you had before the 860? Was it a worsted wool?

A chalk holder would make me nuts ... I don't need to fish around to either replace it or take it .... not so long as there are rails on the pool table. :)

sewing machine pedal are typically 1 to 2 amp load rheostats, far lower than what I'd need. Initially I did find a variable speed rheostat foot pedal on ebay and was using it for a while. It was rated at 6 amps .. (that's hard to find) and that finally shit the bed. A 15 amp foot rheostat is...
