the original version of straight pool.

Hi, I was talking with an old friend and fellow straight pool enthusiast a few days ago. I brought up the original game, which is not the current "continuous" version. I can't remember where I read about the game and the rules. I did a search here, but came up short. The only other place that...

    Brunswick Anniversary Pictures Wanted

new blinds for the anniversary Hi there Eric, I started a thread before Christmas to see if there was interest in hardwood blinds for the Anniversary. I'm working on mine and decided a set of new blinds was the best way to go. The question became... why not hardwood? Stained poplar is...

Restoring '46 Brunswick Anniversary - Castings Concern

1/8" plywood Hi there GC, You may have overlooked what may be an easier way to skin [ok, veneer] that cat. The original construction is 1/8" Walnut veneered veneer core plywood, which is bent around the carcass. It's available 48x98 with the grain running the length of the sheet. The...

Rail Mounting Holes Not Lineing Up

What type of table? If it's a old T rail table, I'm thinking it's a lot more work. You've got to drill twice and more accurately, then drop a barrel nut in there. A lot more demanding than a "modern" GC style where the rails bolt vertically through the slate. Dave

new blinds / aprons for the Brunswick Anniversary

Hi there GC, I appreciate your enthusiasm. I'm hoping others feel the same. As for the true walnut blinds option.... hummmm..... I'm invoking the Brunswick design shop>>> "...forget that, let's do it in aluminum, throw in rosewood rails.... we'll call it the Centennial! " Dave

new blinds / aprons for the Brunswick Anniversary

Hi, Yes, Classic Billiards does offer these in poplar.... it looks like for eight or nine foot tables complete or individual pieces. I'm looking to keep it more simple. I'm more interested in cutting these in hard woods. I'm wondering if others feel the same way.... more expensive, but worth...

new blinds / aprons for the Brunswick Anniversary

Hi there, I’m doing some work on my recently purchased Brunswick Anniversary. The blinds are in need of some work, but certainly salvageable. I started to think about a set of new hardwood blinds, maybe sapele or walnut. I’ve talked with a local mill that I’ve done business with in the past...

Restoring '46 Brunswick Anniversary - Castings Concern

Thanks for filling me in. I'd be inclined to use paste wax on the castings and not lacquer. I stopped by a metal polishing shop near me. The owner was very generous and gave me his thoughts on how to proceed on the banding. Mother's aluminum polish and a rag. He cautioned me on too high a...

Polishing the leg bands Hi there, I'm doing some work on an Anniversary I recently purchased. Your thread is very timely for me. Thanks for your postings. My leg bandings need some work too, so I'm wondering what polish you're using. It sounds like you've sanded them some with a RO sander to...

subjective / objective Call it a can of worms. Too many variables, as said previously, and not enough facts. Maybe this will be resolved when Consumer Reports takes a look at cloth and rubber... and tests them for a few years.... queue these up right after toaster ovens! Wait a minute... I can...

what happened ? Hi, I'm still wondering what happened to JS during this match. Could someone fill me in? I was watching the stream, but walked out of the room early in the match and came back to find no one at the table for several minutes. The talk was that Schmidt was upset with chalk on...

clean only Hi, I built one of those joint compound bucket cleaners within the last year and it works very well. I was surprised by numerous recommenations to use wax....yikes! I believe what's trying to be achieved is simply cleaning the balls. You don't want to be leaving anything behind...

    Diamond/Gold CROWN

GC rail replacement Hi, A few years ago I was touring upstairs at Blatt Billiards in NY. One of the things that we talked about was GC rails. They rework GCs and sell them with wooden rails. It sounded like they would do a rail only upgrade. If you love the Gold Crowns, it seems like a great...

no quite beating a dead horse Hi, Thanks for responding Glen. I've wondered about converting a 10 foot snooker to a pool table for some time. It's a theoretical exercise....
