new blinds / aprons for the Brunswick Anniversary

Hi there,
I’m doing some work on my recently purchased Brunswick Anniversary.
The blinds are in need of some work, but certainly salvageable. I started to think about a set of new hardwood blinds, maybe sapele or walnut. I’ve talked with a local mill that I’ve done business with in the past. I’d like to gauge if there is enough interest here on the forum from other Anniversary owners or restorers to do a small run. The factory blinds are done in poplar and stained dark walnut. The profile could be run in several species… walnut, cherry, mahogany, or sapele; for example. Good clear quality stock, cut with new knives. These would be delivered unfinished and over-sized, all types would require a light sanding and would need to be cut to length. The poplar would need to be stained, while the other species would be beautiful with an oil and wax finish or polyurethane.

Approximate cost for a complete set of blinds for a table>>
poplar $200 sapele $325 walnut $475 Plus shipping from Boston, MA.

Because of the size, shipping cost would most likely be at least $100 via UPS.

I’m interested to hear what you have to say, either here or via PM.
If there is some interest, I'll move this over to the Buy / Sell forum.
... thought this would be a better place to start.

Thanks,
Dave

I think Ken Hash offers similar replacement blinds.

Hi,
Yes, Classic Billiards does offer these in poplar.... it looks like for eight or nine foot tables complete or individual pieces. I'm looking to keep it more simple.
I'm more interested in cutting these in hard woods. I'm wondering if others feel the same way.... more expensive, but worth it? We'll see how it shakes out. I think the stain on the originals is pretty dark and looks almost like paint. My experience with staining has had mixed results. Using a hardwood [walnut would be the same wood as the rails and pedestals]with a oil or poly finish would really be a show stopper, I think..... pimp my ride!
Running these in poplar while the moulder is set up is easy enough...
just trying to reach critical mass... a volume to make it worth while.
I think if restoring a table, some may want to stay as close to original as possible.

@Dave... I still plan to call btw. Lots to talk about. In response, it would be supersweet to have all walnut everything on these Anni's. It is a bit of a trick to get the hues to match up even with adjacent poplar aprons, much less a different wood type. If I hadn't spent as much as I have already on this table's restoration, I'd join in on this and have actually considered doing this wondering why on earth Brunswick didn't market such an option 6 decades ago. As it is, I have to wait a few weeks now before i can get the walnut veneer put on the oval legs.

Hi there GC,
I appreciate your enthusiasm. I'm hoping others feel the same.

As for the true walnut blinds option.... hummmm..... I'm invoking the Brunswick design shop>>>
"...forget that, let's do it in aluminum, throw in rosewood rails.... we'll call it the Centennial! "
