Things to consider for those forum members buying their first pool cue

Just remember that weight bolts are a crutch. IMO, the cue maker missed the desired weight and compensates by using a metal bolt of varying weight to fulfill the customer’s order. I’ve seem varying lengths, material and weight, sometimes more than an ounce. Sticking a chunk of metal in the ass...

Kielwood Cue Shaft - Possibly F/S

Last October, I purchased my first KW cue shaft. It was made by Cory Barnhart and is a radial joint, 29.5”, 12.85mm, short ferrule and 3.81ozs. The tip is Cory’s and I fell in love with how it plays. So much so I embarked on trying to find a little heavier Kielwood shaft weighing at least 4...

Things to consider for those forum members buying their first pool cue

Frosty and many other pool players endorse using a hard tip for your first pool cue. After you learn how to stroke the cue ball properly, which takes constant practice or else you’ll lose what you trying to perfect, you can better decide what tip hardness and brand suits you the best. Unlike...

Things to consider for those forum members buying their first pool cue

Everyone has been very helpful in pointing out and explaining important things to keep in mind by a 1st time cue buyer. The one thing no one has mentioned so far is the most subtle consideration in deciding just how much enjoy your cue. Tip hardness……big difference between extra firm and extra...

    Standard Simonis Green Question

It isn’t smart to lay different colors across and on top of each other because your eyesight tends to blend the colors. Actually, it’s not your vision but rather how it gets displayed in your mind and memory bank. A much better way is to lay the samples adjacent to each other but separated not...

    Standard Simonis Green Question

Aside from the possibility of lot variation, which is likely not the reason IMO, Simonis offers a variety of green colors. Sometimes the shipper might pull the wrong color from inventory or maybe the buyer ordered a different color green. The color options are illustrated in the below photo...

Or any of the other NOMAD states either…….Delaware is only one of several states.

    Dress code in tournaments

The players are in air conditioned locations so shorts should be verboten and long pants made of a material other than denim. Shirts should be tucked at the waist and collared is optional but recommended but no V Necks. Advertising should be limited to the sleeve area only and one sleeve, not...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

Not exactly true…….prepared and ready to serve foods are usually taxable and food served is taxable…….certain supermarket items are taxable, hot prepared foods and take out foods, restaurant foods, foods that include utensils to consume it and many other food items as well are taxable, as is...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

Or any of the other four states comprising the NOMAD states……New Hampshire, Oregon, Montana Alaska & Delaware do not have any state wide sales tax. However, Montana & Alaska have some resort towns that may tax specific services, in addition to some municipalities and burroughs which can vary...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

If you do not legally charge sales tax because the cue maker paid sales tax on the inventory materials for building or repairing pool cues, you are still obligated to file both state and federal tax returns. Yes, tax returns become the legal yardstick for determining how much tax may be owed on...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

What is your point? The 5 NOMAD states have zero sales tax but it has no impact on federal income tax reporting. Cue makers doing business as lump sum sales simplify things but obviously drive up their cost of goods. Income generated of any type for a business must be accounted for and that...

Sales tax on a custom cue?

Occasionally…..It is a business…..inventory records, accounts payable and receivable, overhead, accounting, tax reporting, payroll with tax withholding & reporting….This is the real business world of cue making. You aren’t buying a cue at a garage sale or from an individual selling a pool cue...

Are You Capable Of Building A Heavy Version KW Shaft?

My KW shafts arrived this week & I got to play with them. The bottomline for any readers possibly interested in Kielwood shafts is simply this. I wish I had done this years ago and all my cues had a Kielwood shafts. But since that’s not the case and I still prefer ivory ferrules despite not...

    KielWood Shaft

Well, i got to play with my new shafts today. Much better than I expected. Got no complaints about deflection even though the shafts are uncored. The taper is exquisite, finish is satin smooth, the Kamui Black Clear Soft tips installation is flawless and the weight is four ounces (4 ozs.) that’s...

Numbers on Aramith balls not flush?

The thread about numbers in Aramith pool balls being able to be felt from raising seems incredulous. I know it can happen with pool cue designs but I never heard, nor imagined, this happening with balls.

Numbers on Aramith balls not flush?

I tried playing with 3 different versions of Dynasphere pool balls. There’s only one version I’d consider ever getting. But aside from being less expensive than a new set of Centennials, quality is surely not better nor more attractive.

Numbers on Aramith balls not flush?

I have never seen nor heard of any Aramith set of pool balls, even the lowest priced versions, ever manifest a problem or complaint about being able to feel the design. It is not like rings or inlays that are installed in a cue by the cue maker. I am sure Aramith would tell you this doesn’t...

    Location For Appraisal Posts?

The Cue Gallery is a good place to post a new thread with photos of the cue and include your best attempt at describing it & any provenance details if it was inherited versus purchased. Close up photos help a lot in determining likely market value.

    KielWood Shaft

I was surprised how 12.6mm felt different and more comfortable in my closed bridge than a 12.5mm. I don’t know why but it felt better. I realize my fingers can’t discern a 1mm difference but it really did feel different and more suited to a closed bridge.
