Sports that should be in the Olympics

I don't know, I guess I'm a traditionalist but I've always believed that the Olymplics was always a place where countries displayed their best survival skills. By survival skills, I'm talking about skills that come from hunting or military backgrounds. The best runners, swimmers, 'throwers'...

Cannot Believe How Bad Silver Cup Chalk Is

I guess I'm in he minority. The stuff seems to work for me, and I always carry my own case around. I've even learned to accept the mess that comes with it because I like it so much. Different strokes. dave

Pro's and Cons of a ball return table

It's funny to notice that people most likely favor conditions in wich they learned with. I learned to play pool during my 19 years in Japan where all the Gold Crowns had ball returns. When I came to the states, I can remember several times where I failed to jump out of my seat to help retrieve...

    Pictures of "Felts" diamonds

The six tables they have now are 4.5" pro cut. They'll be replacing table 1 soon with 4.25" pockets. I think that they play perfectly with pro cut 4.5". I'm my opinion, the perfect table. The reason they're replacing the other table with 4.25" pockets is because they're leaning towards...

    Japan Open

I think what I miss the most about Japan was that on any given night, you could get the house pro to play for cheap 1-5K yen sets (at the time, real close to $10-$50 for a race to 7). And I really miss those all night sessions of "Go-Ku". dave

    Japan Open

One of the great things about the scene over there is that most all players work as a house pro (salary) or as a rep (expenses) for a room somewhere. One of the other cool things about Japan is that because there are so many rooms and in the Tokyo area they all stagger their weekly tournies to...

    Japan Open

I can't believe that Oi Kun still plays out of Flannel. I figured by now for sure he'd be in a bigger room. dave

    teeny tiny shafts

For myself, I started out with a used cue that had the shafts turned down considerably so when I had my first 'full' shaft experience, I felt as if I couldn't see the CB as well, and the thicker shaft felt bulky and awkward. I then bought a Wes Hunter cue, and turned down the shafts myself to a...

    Denver Diamond ProAms

The tbles came straight from the CSI US Open 10-Ball in Vegas. They were clothed, skirts and everything together. All they had to do was put the legs on and level them. Pretty quick process actually. And no, RKC wasn't there. dave

    About Wes Hunter Cues

My first cue was a Wes Hunter, and even though I'm very happy with my current player, my Hunter is the one cue that I really regret parting ways with. His cues play on the stiff/meaty side, but not as 'crispy' as something like a Southwest. His shaft material is some of the best I've ever...

Innocent Comments that are Actually Psyche Warfare

I've posted this before on other threads, so forgive the repeat. One of the guys I used to play pool with in Japan actually ended up coming to work for me as a sub-contractor and every month after doing the books (payday) it was our tradition to play one race to 9 for 10,000 yen (about $120 at...

    Denver Diamond ProAms

Too much table for you Bruce.............. Seriously though, after todays session, I'm going to have to make the effort to play down there more often. I played well considering it was my first 'real' session on a Diamond, but the rag is still new and very forgiving. Those tables are...

I am starting to take orders for building a cue....

"Build it (first and well) and they will come." I wish anybody luck in starting to build cues as it would be a dream come true for me. But I think you need a product before you can sell it. And by that, I don't mean a completed cue. Cuemakers take orders for cues to be built all the time...

Playing Safe In 8Ball or 9Ball

Not trying to knock anybodys game/level, nor am I smug enough to try and sit here and claim I'm a superior player. However, when this particular question even comes up in a conversation, I tend to assume that the person asking the question is not much of a pool player. dave

    Insurance on cues?

I'm not sure what catagory or whatever it entails, but I remember listing my valuables (tv, stereo, jewels, photo gear, and high end cues) on my home owners policy. dave

Does any of the Asain cue makers make a good quality cue?

I would endorse anything made in Japan simply because after having lived there for 19 years, I know first hand about Japanese work ethic, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. Adam Cues, Musashi (by Adam), and Mezz cues would compare to almost any custom cue maker when it comes to...

The biggest misconception that we hear or read about is that "all ivory is ILLEGAL

The problem is, custom agents are highly uneducated and not well trained to correctly identify materials like ivory. Many of them aren't trained to recognize ivory from plastic, faux ivory, or any other white materials. They have a handbook or guide that teaches them about what kinds of items...
