Not sure where you're located but it sounds like your dealer is offering you a pretty descent deal. There are really no bad points to the poplar except you have to get it in a dark finish only because of the dark streaks in the wood. Structurally it's as good as maple.

I guess perhaps an interesting twist could be to ask "What is the benefit to sanding any finer than 220 grit before finishing anyway?" It seems to me that, imo, 220 works fine and if it does assist in finish adhesion then that's a great plus. If not, nothing lost. Right?

I can't help but mention that it greatly disappoints me too that some of the people on here feel the need to make smart remarks and critisize other's posts. This man never claimed to make anyone a pool "super star" but merely to offer tips to improve your aiming and overall quality of your game...

I haven't seen or bought his book but I did shoot with Robin this afternoon for about 3 hours and racked EVERY game. Not sure what's in his book but if he was able to put his style of playing into it then it should be a great source.
