    14.1 Stats -- John Schmidt's Run of 434 on Video, December 2018

the scratch looks unusual, but doesn't appear to be caused by external factors such as chalk or the table. the cue ball has an insane amount of spin coming down the table; the curve of it is dramatic but entirely consistent with that spin as it slows, and lastly, the pockets are large and have a...

    14.1 Stats -- John Schmidt's Run of 434 on Video, December 2018

"John played one shot with a cue extension and two shots left handed." AtLarge, i don't want to minimize your stats in any way, it is a great and appreciated effort, but i have watched up to just over the 300 mark, and John has used his screw-in extension on 3 shots already.

    Tips... Are we fooling Ourselves?

i heard this guy, i think his name is Efrum Rays, is pretty good and plays with pressed Elkmaster, so i switched to those and they seem to work ok. only problem is they cost me 25 cents each, so that's 100x less than the layered tips i was using, so they can't really be any good, 'cos someone...

How Often Has This Happened to You?

exactly the reverse for me, in general: for me, a good run is 30-something, and i'll often run that right out of the gate when practicing, and then not come close for the next couple of hours. in both our cases, though, i think it's focus.

    My favorite referee moment

if you read what i wrote, genius, maybe you'd grasp what i meant. or maybe not. "can't remember who was playing, but in a 14.1 match that's on video, Ken Shuman picked up the break ball when racking for a final some years back. they of course didn't have video like in the snooker match with...

Schmidty on a mission !!! two 400+'s in the matter of a week !!

John plays plenty fast, there is no reason to speed it up. straight pool is not about the shot, it's about the thinking.

    Accelerating Stroke

wow, does All of this sound familiar -- but beautifully wrapped up in a gift box! btw, Ronnie O has a slightly different hitch in the back of his stroke, which has exactly the same function as Shane's. thank you, Tinman.

    Cue tip contact time

"I think the grip hand should not change shape much during the shot." Bob, i usually take everything you say as an article of faith, but this one may have more than one correct answer. look at the way the grip functions on Any snooker player; the top ones all, without exception, open the grip...

    do I need professional lessons

you've gotten some good advice, and some bad advice; that's how posing a question to an assortment of people goes, and at your level, you have no way of knowing which is which. but note that one person, and one person only, in this thread -- Bob Jewett -- has beaten Shane Van Boening, America's...

Rank your top 3 favourite cue tips

    (1) pressed Elkmaster (some guy named Efrum Rayz recommended them) (2) Moori medium (3) Everest medium really, i would pick (1) for all 3 choices, but it would look boring.
