What makes pockets tight? What makes them spit balls out?

This is a good point. Also, don't overlook humidity and dirtiness of the equipment. If the ball touches the rail on the way in, it will also tend to pick up some sidespin (essentially running english). When the ball hits the opposing pocket face, that sidespin will tend to throw the ball out...

What do you guys use to hold chalk in your case?

That little Blue Diamond box is fantastic. I used to carry the full 12 from Master until I got a sample of Blue Diamond. Now I just take the 2 cubes with me, no mess, no fuss.

Want a new/ extra shaft- Your opinion and why?

I'm actually in kind of a unique position to comment on this. I now shoot with an OB-1 on a Schon. I made the switch from an original 314 about a year ago, and love my OB-1. I use my 314 as a backup, because I don't want to sink the money into a 3rd aftermarket shaft just yet. I pull out the...

    Another Earl Video

That's actually exactly what sparked the idea I posted in this thread: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=138945

Hill - Hill vs. the Ghost! How do you play it??

I know it's only one rack and one layout, so take this for what it's worth - an observation of that one rack. I know you said you had to lay into the break to get things moving. Have you experimented with a cut break? If you can clip that 1 ball and get the cue ball into the 2nd ball, things...

    I'd pay to see this...

Everyone's had those times where the stroke feels good, and you feel like you can't miss, so you start experimenting with some stroke shots or whatnot. Can you imagine what that would look like for some of the best strokes in the world? I'd pay to see that, and I think a lot of the pool...

    Another Earl Video

Serious talent. I love this comment at the bottom of the page; "Yeah, it's kinda crazy to think that today there is an entire sub-industry devoted to creating specialty products that will help people do all the things that Strickland just did with a 50 dollar Cue-tec."

***Funniest thing to ever happen during a match!!***

I play in a co-ed, independent, bar league. We were hill-hill in a playoff match against our big "rival," and for reasons unimportant to the story, one of our weaker women ended up playing the last game. She was really nervous, and told us so. We all tried to calm her down a little and give...

OBs CURVE short on hard-hit banks

I've been playing under the same assumption as you, Creedo. I've always felt like it was possible to shorten up banks much more than that mirror angle using only speed. By how far seems to vary with the playing conditions. Another reason I say this is, the forward roll should have less -...

OBs CURVE short on hard-hit banks

Interesting idea. I've noticed that something looks different about the path of a hard hit bank, but never been able to say what it was. Maybe this is it? When do you notice the maximum effect? How hard are you hitting the shot?, Which angles? Have you noticed any relationship between the...

    Break Cue Tip

Before I bought my J&J I used that Talisman on an old Lucasi. Worked great. The Lucasi eventually turned into the cue I let my buddies borrow, and I had to put on a more forgiving tip or I'd still have that today as my backup.

    Break Cue Tip

Forgive me if this is a bit presumptuous, but my guess is that if you're miscuing often, it's more to do with your mechanics than with the tip. It might even be a good idea to force yourself to become consistent with that tip as is, because it will force you to learn to hit closer to center on...

Bob's 14.1 at Derby City: Thanks

If I was a pro, I'd have a hard time posting at a place like this. Everyone here has opinions, and very few of us are shy about keeping them to ourselves (me included). As a fan of 14.1, I have to echo Charlie's thank you. The more exposure the game gets the better. Wish I could have been...

Funniest moment in the pro arena at Valley Forge?

I meant to post this last week, but I think it's still worth it, especially with the thread about non-gamblers that just started up yesterday... Before the final match between Schmidt and Deuel, Frank Del Pizzo (the MC) was trying to get the crowd up and excited about the match. He brought in...

    Non Gamblers?

That's about the speed I like! I don't gamble for more than a candy bar or a drink. And I do that because it's fun. I don't have much money to lose, and people tend to lose their minds when money gets involved anyway. So, I've always stayed away from gambling. Plus, I'm not sure I have the...

Deuel's 10 ball break at Valley Forge

I don't know for sure, but I would imagine that the effect would be much greater if the cue ball is not airborne when it gets to the 1 ball. If that's true, then it could be beneficial to hit the balls softer...

Deuel's 10 ball break at Valley Forge

This is actually pretty funny to me. I would say he's hitting those balls easily 50-100% harder than he did at Valley Forge last weekend, and from about 6-8 inches farther off center. However, he was able to get the same (better?) results in this video. My guess is that Corey experimented...

Deuel's 10 ball break at Valley Forge

There are exceptions, of course, but I'm generally in favor of anything that rewards the player with the most knowledge. If you know where the balls are going, and like Corey, have put the time in to figure out how to use that to your advantage (within the rules), then I'm all for it.

What TIP TOOL(S) Can'tchya Live Without?

I'm similar to Fred on this one. I try not to touch my tip as long as it doesn't turn glassy on me. If I've miscued a couple of times or it just doesn't seem to hold chalk as well as I'd like, I'll run some sandpaper over it to rough it back up, but that's about it. That said, talking to...
