What do you think is the reason for so many good pool halls closing?

Economics & The Times First, I don't believe many truly 'good' rooms are closing. But for the others, I would think the math - pure and simple - is the reason. Low revenue per square foot in relation to high overhead costs (proportionately). Another huge reason (and somewhat more abstract I...

Playing Nine Ball Ghost....Feel Free to Critique

Great Playing I know its supposed to be a critique, but when you only miss two balls, that's pretty tough. Great set. What type of setup do you have; it looked like the table was playing a little bit slow. Also, Classicbilliards.net might have a replacement counter for your table.

    Best Teacher/Coach for B-to B Player

Thinking about some lessons or coaching. Consider myself a B- to B player. High run is 44 (3x), ran 9-ball 3-packs more than a handful times against ghost. But best I've done with the 9-ball ghost in a race to 7 is getting to (5). Who would you consider to be a good teacher to help me get...

    Sportmanship at US Open

I shouldn't of cast judgement Whoever said I cast judgement was correct. And I suppose I should of just wrote about the situation without specific names. I stand corrected on that one.

    Sportmanship at US Open

This makes me think too. Honestly - off the top of my head - I don't have an immediate answer. Perhaps some sort of pledge. Something codified. Obviously, somethings already are. He swept the balls; he was DQed. So something exists, unwritten or otherwise.

    Sportmanship at US Open

I see your point, too. Frankly, thank you for your post. I see/follow your perspective and respect your insight. I don't know Mr. Nevel personally, but I take your word. However, I stand by my view.

    Sportmanship at US Open

Sweeping the balls because he was frustrated and getting trounced? In front of everybody at the country's (possibly the planet's) most prestigious event? What a great display for his sponsor - LOL. An ambassador for a company? Yea right. The US Open should look hard at sportmanship for...

1963 GCI set up! Lovin' it.

I think a 'Cobrasized GC-I' are called 'Super Crowns' Because of RKC, my table plays great (although he didn't do it). Older GCs running Artemis are being referred to as a Super Crowns. There's nothing like it. Certainly not like those boingy older Diamonds. Enjoy it!

SVB vs. Alex P Final Day

Huge, huge Point Here - Shane is a Manufactured Player - Good for Him!!! Certainly the more talented, the better. I've always thought of SVB as more manufactured or trained, then raw talent. And good for him; I'm like that myself. And that's fine. The turtle always beats the rabbit. If...

    Going Pro

Great responses here / Listen to Neil Neil had a fantastic, well-thought out response. I especially liked a previous poster that also said '...we have all seen too many 50 year old bums in pool halls who have never let go of the dream and have nothing to show for it.' Funny, I just saw that...

Crazy Jerry was Jerry McNamore Last seen him play at Pocketeer Billiards in West Seneca around 93. I defer to Cardiac regarding his whereabouts today. Jerry played beautifully, but had serious problems for sure. He was a legend in WNY. Now Crazy Frank is another store altogether. Total...

    Moving to Rochester, NY

My memories of Classic Billiards Classic Billiards was the very first room I frequented. As a SUNY-Brockport freshman/sophomore in 89-90, it was a fantastic intro to the game and the scene. I can still remember it like it was yesterday. It contributed to getting the game into my blood... My...

Post dated checks for final 8 at Master's

The BCA Could be Right Behind Promoters, too JAM brings up a key point with regards to the BCA. Having read the story about Barry's press conference (specifically about the number of pool tables sales he quoted) and the fact that rooms seem to be disappearing by the day, it doesn't take a...
