Best Teacher/Coach for B-to B Player

Thinking about some lessons or coaching.

Consider myself a B- to B player. High run is 44 (3x), ran 9-ball 3-packs more than a handful times against ghost. But best I've done with the 9-ball ghost in a race to 7 is getting to (5).

Who would you consider to be a good teacher to help me get to the next level? My goal: 60 balls in 14.1 / beat the 9-ball ghost in a race to 7.

U.S. nationwide - will travel. Timeframe: 2012.

Have great home setup. Love to practice, too.

I would think there has to be someone in your area that would teach/mentor/coach you rather than travel the country. Where do you live?

A good drill for improving with the ghost is to start with 3 ball and ball in hand .. play 10 racks (you don't have to win 10 just play) then go to 4 ball, repeat, 5 ball, repeat and go all the way to 9 or 10 ball, playing 10 racks on each. Do that every day for a month or two and your ghost game will go up. Other than that, there are some diagonal drills that will help.

I'd take a weekly or bi-weekly lesson from a knowledgeable (?) teacher
over time rather than one week with someone somewhere.... but that's just my opinion. There are just too many facets to learn, and each one can consume large quantities of your practice time.

Good luck.

Have you thought of a good set of instructional DVD? Willie Mosconi in his book say he NEVER TOOK A LESSON, but learned from watching BETTER PLAYERS!

One problems I see with LESSONS & CLINICS is ability to retain information, no matter how GREAT ANY INSTRUCTOR is a student has a limited amount of time to retain on so much.

Maybe this is why the Marine Corps spend THREE WEEKS on Basic Rifleman Training, Snapping In, Dry Firing, and Last Live Ammo firing before qualification day.

Good solid advice here!!! I do the same thing with the ghost practice session except I play 5 ahead. I started out only being able to beat the 5 ball ghost and now beat the 9 ball ghost about half the time in the 5 ahead sets. It takes some time, but it's a great way to practice. It also will quickly show you where you have holes in your game. Pay attention to your misses and try to see patterns. Recognize the types of shots you are missing and patterns or position play that is making you miss. You will get better!

Today's coaches are going to video most if not all the lesson. For sure the main points of the lesson you'll have on tape. Also most instructors will give you printed material when you leave. Additionally I couldn't dream any would object to you taking notes.

Books and DVD's are nice but nothing better than a personal coaching session.

The coaches mentioned are all exceptional but look at the ones in the Instructor Forum. Some will travel to you.

If you want to do something quick get Little Joes DVD's then go see him.

I will throw my name & Scott Lee's name in the ring also. We both travel quite a bit.

Let's start with where do you live? PM me if you like.

I attended Randy G's 3 day school in Frederick Maryland and it is well worth it and Fundamentals are so...so important as well as Randy's drills. The straight pool thing...going from 44 to 60 is a different issue IMHO. Get Jim Rempe's DVD's on how to run a rack and a hundred ball run with player review. Once you get with Randy G's program you will need to learn "Patterns" in straight pool and Rempe"s DVD's will definitely help.
