    I need to Vent.

I play in two straight pool leagues and it's considered bad form to carry on a conversation while your opponent is at the table. However, sometimes a guy comes up to you while you're in the chair and starts talking, asks a question or whatever, and you don't want to be rude to him. You just...

    Corey Deuel runs again

Chez Maropolis is getting to be like Chez Fatboy. Nice to know that when I get to running 200 balls every day I have a place to stay in sunny California.

One Pocket Tournament (April 28th, 2012) @ Red Shoes Billiards (Chicago)

The bank pool tournament had a full field of 32. If more than 32 show up for the one pocket, do you turn them away or somehow make room for them?

    Cue Tip Maintenance Tools

Another vote for the last4ever. Also Q-Wiz. I had never used Q-Wiz until I got a free one from Joel Pope when I ordered a last4ever. It does a great job of smoothing the shaft without taking hardly anything off - I normally just use the leather side.

    what makes 'em stick?

I've tried Brillianize and Novus #1 in the Diamond ball polisher. For what it's worth, I found that Novus left little flakes on the table, like dandruff. Not a lot but enough to be annoying. I guess it leaves a coating on the balls that gets knocked off as you play. This hasn't happened...

    A Plea to Mike Howerton...

None of those other topics generate the heat, and the tiresome repetitiveness, of the aiming threads. There's nothing about aiming per se that requires them to be segregated except for the way they always, and I mean always, play out. I've been avoiding aiming threads and an aiming sub-forum...

    Chalk Shark

This is a magnetic chalk holder that attaches to your belt. There are others out there but this one is really high quality. The magnetic field is strong - get the chalk anywhere in the vicinity of the holder and it grabs. It uses earth magnets. The holder is covered in leather front and...

UNDO- The Blue Pool Cue Shaft Cleaner

Sounds like a white version of Comet.

    Kamuii tip tool

Definitely not worth it, IMHO. Buy a last4ever tool instead. Does a lot more and a lot cheaper.

    JB Cases Video Interview

An infomercial but a really effective one. I learned a lot. Thanks John. Kinda heart-stopping though when those cues fall out of Brand X and hit the floor.

Wanted Section- Vintage/Antique Billiard Related Items

I've been hoping to replace the old-fashioned table cover (9 foot) that my wife destroyed when she put it in the washing machine. It was a black cover commonly called oilcloth but the material is really called rubberized canvas, or so I understand. They don't make them anymore and haven't for...

Bank Pool Tournament (March 31st, 2012) @ Red Shoes Billiards (Chicago)

Bobby Hunter? Jeff Carter? Sergio Perez? Ike Runnels? Chris Gentile? Piggy Banks? John Zaksas? Tom Karabatsos? Mike Eck? Mark Jarvis? Rob Talchik? Is Jet Johnson able to play?

Bank Pool Tournament (March 31st, 2012) @ Red Shoes Billiards (Chicago)

I don't know if John Brumback is playing, but if he is he should bring an armload of his DVD's and have them for sale. I think he'll find a good market at a bank pool tournament.

    John Davis

Tim Prince also has a relationship with John Davis and builds cues from John's blanks. Here's an example: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?p=3463097#post3463097 Tim has done refinishing and other work for me and I highly recommend him. He can be reached at princecue@comcast.net

The Holy Grail is not Kamui Chalk

LOL. This post, or rather the kind of experience described in the post, should spell the end of the Kamui chalk boomlet. If this chalk causes skids that should be the death knell. Skids are worse than miscues because miscues can be easily prevented by stroking and chalking properly. Not so...

    Hustlers, Beats, & Others

Thanks for posting - I had never seen that interview. Although I wouldn't know from first hand experience, I have always thought that Polsky's description of hustlers and the hustling life was very accurate for that era. His book and Bob Byrne's McGoorty remain my favorite pool books to this...

    Quality of leather in cases

Damn, John, if you solved that vexing problem for Diamond they should soon be putting a free Pro-Am and RKC on a slow boat to China.

    Quality of leather in cases

This thread is so good I don't want it to end. Here's another subtopic. I'm aware that it's possible to buy leather that's already been dyed at the tannery ("drum dyed"), but I believe that most case makers dye their own to provide more color choices. Somewhere I read that the darker colors...

    Rambow signed cues

OK, I'll tell the story. I sold it around (I'm guessing) 1968 to a guy I went to grammar school with who was about to go to Vietnam. This was a guy I hadn't seen since grammar school (7 years earlier). He just called me up one day and said he'd like to buy my Rambow cue. I didn't even know...

    Hustlers, Beats, & Others

Here's a nice obituary about him that I found online. He died in 2000. Ned Polsky, who died suddenly and unexpectedly this past June 13, is best known and will no doubt be remembered by sociologists for his ventures into the field of deviance. The five essays that make up his book Hustlers...
