    Simple finish for beginner/hoobyist?

Cuecomponents has a finishing epoxy... but lots of work to shine. That's one drawback of using that type of finish. You did right on your procedure. I'd rather have the cue dry while spinning befor I take it out of the lathe. You could use a rubbing compound frst before using any buffing...

How Are Shaft Blanks Cut From Trees?

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is a cuemaker should take the time and liberty to personally select and check each board he'll use for shafts... hit some miss some... then when you star cutting the boards down to squares hit some and miss some more... when the whole cutting thing ends...

    Cue Monster

I think I was referring to the taper shaper they have on their site... it could also do inlays and taper (ofcourse) for a little under $3,000 if I'm not mistaken  Nothing more than that I guess... What else could the CueMonster do? Is it a Cue-Lathe-CNC type thing? hadj

I believe it costs a little below $3G's... Check out DZ cues router set-up. I wanna have one of those. Currently designing one with a huge table for multi-task CNC work... but my pockets won't let me :(

Capped or un-capped ferrule and why....?

No void in the shaft.I cut the tenon on the ferrule, drill a hole at the base of tenon up to .250 before the cap then plug it with a dowel. Bore the shaft, slip the tenon in that's it. No holes uncovered. What predator has is a hole drilled at the shafts end. As to how they put on the ferrule...

Capped or un-capped ferrule and why....?

In this procedure, I cut the tenon from the ferrule, bore and plug a dowel in the ferrule leaving a .250 cap. So the dowel runs from the ferrule and into the shaft. Helps prevent the ferrule from breaking at the shoulder and IMO makes it more structurally sound. Hadj

I also use this method... sometimes even using a different type of wood other than maple in the joint end to change the hit Hadj

    Coring Forearms

Sheldon, I haven't used a gundrill yet. Does the hole still need to be trued up by a loooong boring bar? How long does the process take for coring out a front and ideal speed/feed rate for it? Right after coring, do you immediately stuff the front with a dowel, glued up? I know the front would...

    Coring Forearms

If we could list down the different reasons why this wood should be core or not it would make things clearer for both parties I believe... just curious though... I recently cored a cocobolo front with a purpleheart dowel... wonder how it would hit... Hadj

Capped or un-capped ferrule and why....?

What I do with my personal cues is bore out the ferrule for a snug fit on the tenon. Score the tenon and inner ferrule and epoxy them to a tight fit. Hits good for me and haven't experienced any falling off. No slack... but customers prefer the threaded thing on their cues so I give them what...

Bought a Metal lathe, what next???

WOOD LATHE _ it would be of use but a carriage has to be mounted on it with the slides and stuff, a lead screw to run the carriage along the ways plus that thing should be motorized too. Most wood lathes weren't built as precise as a metal lathe. Even metal lathes have to be set up good for...

    installing triumph tips?

Get a sharp blade, score the under side of the fiber pad, like makin a chessboard drawing. This will help it stick to whatever glue you're using. But not too deep. The fiber pad in triumph tips appear to be plastic like. which is different from the normal fiber pad... it doesn't stick coz very...
