Prolly the main use for nelsonite is minimizing the release and absorption of moisture by the shaft wood... which is one of the factors that cause warpage. try to research for stuff they use to seal wooden pool decks and such...

This is so true specially when a customer wants a tip that I don't personally prefer and have in stock... I tell them either to purchase their own tip or I'll buy it one time for that repair job with the corresponding charges... this happens when they ask for a Lepro or Masters:D

You could ask your local cuemaker to change the shaft joint end a little bigger and taper it to the size of the butt joint. You could also thicken the shaft end with an epoxy finish... but I'd rather change the shaft joint Hadj

Cutting the front is a breeze... problem I see is cutting the 5 point prong... :)
