    Hal Houle

I was leary that I was going to read bad news when I opened the thread. I met Hal in So. Calif several years ago and really enjoyed the small amount of time I was able to spend with him. At the time I met him he was teaching, or at least taught me, a slightly different system than CTE. This...

One Pocket Finals - Schmidt vs. Frost

It was appropiate for John to win during the same week that Jack Cooney was elected into the One Pocket Hall of Fame. "Victorville" John as he was known when living in So. Calif was tutored in One Pocket by none other than Jack Cooney. He paid his dues at Hard Times while learning!

    Elbow drop

Most of the Pro's mentioned went through their learning process years before the validity of the "no elbow drop" concept became known. The late Hal Mix wrote that the players who have unconventional styles may be great but you have to wonder how good they might have been with proper...

On a stroke shot, how much follow through?

As said at the beginning of this thread the follow through varies from person to person. As one person said "when the meat of the forearm meets the meat of the bicep." This completes the "stroke" that started with the 'Set" proceeded to the slow back swing and the 'Pause" and finishes with the...

    Ismael Paez

Morro is a class act with a ton of gamble in him. Early this year he and Kim Davenport had several liability games on Big Bertha for 30 & 50 a point! John, I remember when you were playing Morro at night and Cooney in the afternoons. For a while Morro got the best of you but you knew that the...

    Jack Cooney

Jack stayed around Hard Times for awhile after that match up with Toby. I remember that Jack was down 6 games the first night--or early the next morning. I had to leave and I thought that Jack was about out of the match. I stopped on the way out to talk to "Little" Al Romero. I shook my head and...

    Big Bertha @ Hard Times

Last month at Hard Times in Bellflower John "Achie" Archibald went 6 and out on in a Golf game on "Big (6x12) Bertha. First time ever! For those of you who are familiar with HT you know what an achievement that is. He 3 railed the 5 hole and got perfect shape on the 6 hole.

    Hustling

If someone asks you "If you want to play some cheap sets" you can bet the only person that it is going to be cheap for is them. You've already been clocked.

    Us Open

I have some friends who go every year to the DCC and they claim that there are young kids there who will play anyone for anything. And these young kids are virtually unknown outside of theri area.

Looking for a high quality pool glove

The Blakeman Glove is excelllent. He is out of Henderson, Nevada. He was one the first to manufacture gloves. He has rooms that distribute his gloves. He normally answers his own phone. I get mine from Family Billiards in Long Beach, Calif. Good tight fit and long lasting.

    Center-to-Edge (CTE) Pivot Issue

Wow! And I thought that it was a pretty simple question. Haven't seen so much tap dancing since watching a Fred Astaire movie when I had insomnia.

    Center-to-Edge (CTE) Pivot Issue

Seems to me that this is a question that really deserves an answer! I am really surprised not one of the advocates of these systems has bothered to responded. Pretty good place to start.

    Interesting question about Bustamonte

I don't think that you would hold up Bustamante's fundamentals as a template for a new player. But there is no denying that despite his warm up strokes his cue goes through the CB perfectly straight. Watching him at Hard Times on his recent trip it was amazing how his One Hole game has improved...

    round vs" pointy " points

A guy I know has some beautiful Shons but the round points just turn me off. But obviously they don't bother him. Different strokes.

A Thread for the Non-Pool Gambles

Used to gamble on football games and the ponies. When I was a drinker I would play for drinks on a bar table even though I didn't know anything about pool. Just got tired of bending my elbow and used pool as a break. One day I realized that my anger at losing had surpassed my happiness at...

3/8 x 12 joint screw, need shaft + joint protectors

In So. Calif both Ariel Carmelli and Kerry Zylr have 3/8x12 taps. From their days at Best Billiards. Also try the repair guy at Seyberts. He did a Predator shaft for me for a Tad and he had to have a 3/8x12 tap made for the job. That was about 3-4 years ago and he was great to work with. Good luck.
