How long do your skills last?

When Efren is struggling, he still wins by using his wit. He knows all the moves, the game is like chess to him.

Brag Here... Your Most Memorable Shot

One of the most memorable shots I made was quite a few years ago when I was in my 20's, playing some road player for $1000 race to 11- 9-ball. It was hill-hill, and I attempted to play safe on the by thinning it. I let the pressure take over me, and I hit the 9-ball too thick and too hard...

    Dead Rail?

I agree. If your rail is dead, a decent burial can be costly. Cremation costs less, but stay away from the fumes.

    Dead Rail?

I am not sure, but it sounds dead to me. For example, if you have a ball on or near the rail and you want to bank it in the side pocket, and it double-kisses at an angle that it normally wouldn't, this is a sign that you have bad quality rails or they are dead. I hear the best rails for all...

    the loop bridge

Yes, I think this is very important. Good post. Alot of players when told to keep their closed bridge "snug" hold it so tightly that as they stroke forward, their stroke seems to be inhibited because as the diamater of the shaft increases further down, there is not enough room for it to pass...

Good Question? Why is the Eastern half of the US loaded with players?

The reason why it's tough to find action in California is because everything is so spread out. The best way to get action is to search around for open tournaments. Most players who are in handicapped tournaments or leagues are usually afraid to lose more than $100. Open tournaments usually...

    Bank shots...

Re: Re: Re: BANKING Hi Hal, after playing professional pool for many years and being friends with many top players, I have learned that most players aim and bank based on feel. Here and there some old-timers talk about marking the room or using the mirror system for banks, but thats about it...

I served 4 years in the US Army, and it's no cakewalk. It sure as hell made me a better person when I came out. It was a wake-up call to get my S*** together. God Bless our troops :)

    Assess Your Pool Instructor

Here is a way to look at it: You can only become as good as the best player in your poolhall. If you learn from a master, you can only become as good as the master. To become better than that you have to learn on your own.

To be a pro, or not to be a pro.

Of course pool is a way of life, but if a young talent came up to me and asked me which path he should choose, pool or school, I would say school without a doubt. I can't count how many middle-aged world-class players I've met who slept in their cars for weeks at a time because when there was no...

    Allison Fisher vs Efren Reyes

Not trying to start a battle of the sexes here. The other day I was at a poolroom, and overheard some railbirds talking. One said that Efren offered to give Allison the 6-out for any amount of money, and she wouldn't take it. A female player was present, and said Efren would have no chance to...
