Jeremy Jones in Action in Paducah!

KY Bankers (There is a great banker here in Paducah that is pretty unknown.) My wife has relatives in Paducah and I have visited there many times but never played pool there. Paducah is a stopover each year on our trip out west. Have to find a poolroom there this year when we are passing thru.

Jeremy Jones in Action in Paducah!

KY Bankers Yes, I know Nick and another guy from Kentucky named Buddy too. Both are fabulous players and great ambassadors for pool. But as great as they have been both line up behind Vernon except in name recognition. Don't think there are any better people in pool though; at least that I know.

Jeremy Jones in Action in Paducah!

KY Bankers Vernon Elliott was a pretty fair bank pool player from Kentucky. Most likely the best pool player Kentucky ever produced.

Have to bear down more as you get older?

The above quote hits the nail on the head IMO. When you're young or just learning to play it's hard to recognize the difference between a routine shot and a really difficult shot so both are shot with virtually no thought or pressure. Once you learn the difference there is a greater tendency...

    Layered Tip Hype

Opinion on tips Reading posts made here on tip opinions is pretty interesting from my point of view because they mirror what I have experienced with both tips and cues. I have bought and used too many of both:( Have found many answers and still have questions but would trade both for my money...

State champion at 15 years of age.

State Champ It is indeed refreshing to see a nice young man doing so well in pool. Hopefully we will all get to see him become the pool champion from whatever university he chooses to graduate from also.

    What is the call?

Two situations came up recently during a game of nine ball that I would like the forums input/decision on. One player is getting the eight ball and during his turn at the table he makes the eight but scratches. Since the eight ball is his money ball is it spotted or does it stay down? Also...

    Saving The Valley Bar Box

Valleys vs Diamond One of the rooms I play in has all Valley tables and Diamond 9'. The other room has all Diamond tables (9' & 7'). When playing at the room with Valleys (my favorite room)I overhead a couple players commenting about how poorly the Valleys played vs the Diamonds which was in...

How do those Adams "Balabushka's" play?

Adms Balabushka Actually the Adams's cues are very nice cues and play as well as any other well made cue. The "hit" and "playability" of any well made cue is too subjective to be the only indicator of what to buy. Tips, shaft tapers, etc, etc, make one cue play "better" than another to some...

    1970' Richard Black question

Re:Black cue: For the best answer ask Richard himself. I have several of his cues which I had him make for me. His shop in Humble is as impressive a his cues and my dealings with Richard have always been satisfactory.

    Ferrule-less Shafts

Ferruleless shaft All you will ever need is a pad on the end of a shaft. Ferrules are ornaments only which isn't bad if you want ornaments.

I think people go way too far worrying about equipment

After meditating on Glens input and reading between the lines I was able to appreciate the value of the message. I have a 9' Diamond Pro in my basement and a 7' Diamond upstairs for practice and when I invite my buddies from the country club over to play. I also have suitable accoutrements...

I think people go way too far worrying about equipment

The difference is---you are a real pool player, lol. Most people on this forum could use your cue or Efren's and if no one told them whose cues they were after hitting with them they would start critiqueing them ie, taper too short or long, tip too hard or soft, etc, but if they knew beforehand...

    No-ferrule shaft abused on purpose?

Ferruless shafts I have had my cues made for several years now with no ferrules on the shafts. I put a pad on the end of the shaft and use them for breaking without ever having a problem. Ferrules are a non performance item, imo. As for offering deflection benefits I would think it would take...

    Black Boar Cue

Would like your advice about purchase price of a Black Boar Cue being offered for sale at the pool hall where I play. It is a plain cue; maple forearm with four ebony points, linen wrap, and ebony butt. Comes with two shafts and looks like new. Has the old logo and is offered for $1500. Is...

    Vern Elliott photos

Shannon, Vernon was a friend of mine and often I was with him at Diamonds. When he and I would get together for breakfast or lunch and talk about pool he would tell me to ask you about a "schooling" he gave you one time. What was he talking about?
