Gibbs seems particularly out of it tonight. In the last rack he didn't see that Bergman was shooting an obviously open ball and he said that Bergman's 3rd pocketed ball was his first. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because it sounds like he may be under the weather.

Played Valley last night. Shot a 47 and only gave up a total of 15 points. Should have been a 50 but I made a great shot on the 1 tickying it off of a stripe that was blocking the pocket only to have the cue ball roll out down table and get wired to the 8. Still played great overall. Really...

Bergman's one pocket philosphy is to do something simple most of the time and that usually means conservative so I'm not surprised that this match may take a while. I should note though that I personally think Bergman plays a damn good game of 1p even though he prefers rotation games.

That match was about a year before I took up pool, and I had never seen it before. Thanks Neil for posting this. Yes the ESPN announcer guy was atrocious, but Buddy wasn't actually too bad for being a non-broadcast guy on live tv. And wow it just reminded me of what a different era it was...

On Saturday the DCC facebook page said there was 471.It wouldn't surprise me though if it was actually a full field of 475.

Agree with this. Also my player has a smaller than average diameter for a pool cue and a fairly curved radius on the tip. Neither of those things feel good for me when breaking 9, 8, or 10 ball.

I agree with this. I was really surprised they changed it to alternate break. Watching Jayson Shaw run packages on that monster table last year was some of the most impressive pool I've ever seen.

What an absolutely phenomenal event. Easily the most entertaining pool event all year long. The 10 ft table provides an adequately tough test for these elite level players. It's really too bad we only get to see it once a year. How much fun would a limited field tour of 10 ft events be?

While not as insightful as some of the other guest commentators sitting in with Mark Wilson I actually thought Danny D was passable last night. He made several calls where he disagreed with Mark, but ended up being correct. That being said the more Jeremy Jones and Chris Melling in the booth...

While innovative I would think it illegal based on a plain text interpretation of the World Standardized Rules. That being said almost no event, league, etc plays with anything resembling standardized rules so I guess it's whatevs until someone calls you on it then it's up to the local...

I always take the break regardless of the scenario. To me no matter whom I am playing 9 ball or 8 ball doesn't make a substantial difference. If I break there is a good chance I can win the first game and set the tone.

In a tournament situation it shouldn't matter what the opponent does or doesn't want to happen. The match should run according to the agreed upon rules of the event.

Personally I really enjoy this event. It's unique and fun to just walk upstairs periodically to just see who is having a go. Though he's never had great success in this event (surprisingly) it was a fun experience for me a couple of years ago to just be upstairs watching matches when Thorsten...

That's exactly why I doubt that schedule. I doubt they are going to be switching the tables out back and forth.
