    Pivot Point Aiming...

It's a tool. What I failed to understand from the beginning was the method for determining the pivot point was so different than using the pivot point in play. The pivot point is like a good stroke. It is a tool that can be learned and improved upon to improve play. It is not the do all...

Thanks to Jaden for clarifying Cue Pivot Point

Many thanks Jaden, Thanks again for your patience and explanations. I like to learn so I will work on this until I can use it successfully. If I ever have the opportunity dinner and a beer is on me. Joe

Redefining the Definition of Backhand English

So Hal said to line up with parallel english and then pivot to the center of the cue ball with the back hand? I'm not trying to argue, just understand. Joe

Thanks to Jaden for clarifying Cue Pivot Point

Jaden, So manage the pivot point. FHE or BHE or any combination can be used as long as the PP is correct. With high or low cue ball hits and cue elevation to make other adjustments? Sound right? Joe

Thanks to Jaden for clarifying Cue Pivot Point

I guess I'm to dumb. I can understand finding a point on a shaft where bridging can enable the shaft to make squirt and throw reduce or maybe even cancel each other out, but I don't grasp how this can still work if that bridge point is moved along the shaft. If it still works without...

    Sorry---more about pivot points.

Thanks Jaden Jaden, I can't thank you enough. I will spend some time on this BHE stuff. Also my daughter has expressed a desire to learn to play. I am going to find the PP on her stick and then get her set up so that the fundamentals will have a head start. Grip, swing, etc. First and...

    Sorry---more about pivot points.

Thanks Jaden, I have not read completely through your linked thread but I will. If you would please tell me what your thoughts are on my other questions. I have experimented with BHE, I think I will pursue it further. I hope others will respond as well. Thanks

    Sorry---more about pivot points.

I find the idea of pivot points fascinating. Someone suggested a relationship between LD shafts and a front hand pivot. What would that relationship be? Is there really a difference between pivoting the front hand vs the rear hand? I also see the idea that speed somehow affects the...

    What is best?

Any distance The "any distance" was in reference to the ob to the cue ball. The ob ball is about two diamonds from the pocket. The shot itself is almost straight in. Ball centers line up with the pocket cushion corners. In other words I am hitting the ob almost full on while trying to spin the...

    What is best?

When I shoot one particular shot without english I make it 9 out of 10 times from any distance. When I add outside english and the cue ball is more than two diamonds from the object ball I over cut it every time. Apparently my stroke is the problem. So here is the question. Is it better to...

    Did cleaning ruin my shaft?

So many different ways! On my shafts that are sealed I clean with any good automotive scratch remover. Like the Fast Orange it has a small amount of abrasive which cleans but does not harm the sealed shaft. A little wax and burnishing finishes the job. Joe

Contact lens - playing with near and far lens?

Contacts The only time I wear my contacts is when playing pool. I don't even wear them for practice. I too have an astigmatism but it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I need correction both near and far but my contacts only correct distance. I figure up close and fuzzy isn't the...

    Another tip...

Yep, I'm right and anybody that doesn't agree with me is automatically and absolutely wrong. The "progressive" thinking of today. Just my open minded opinion about bridge length. I just can't get Alan Hopkins style out of my head. Joe

Why is pool like it is?

All I can When people ask me what I do for fun I tell them I play pool. Right away I explain to them that it is not the kind of pool they are familiar with. I tell them I don't hustle beers in a bar, I don't try to rob people of their paychecks. I admit I do gamble but only with select...

Why is pool like it is?

Image The players (especially the pros) have to make an effort to rehab the image of pool. Charity type events. Favorable news reports. Good guy actions. Gambling is only an issue in that it may (or may not) contribute to the negative image of pool. People gamble at golf all of the time...

    Best Safeties

Safeties Asking who plays the best safeties is like asking who pockets balls the best. Which will result in a whole lot of opinions. Besides when to play a safety totally depends on the abilities of the player on the table, the opponent, and to some extent the score. IMO the better way...

    Gambling is the problem

First off, probably 99% of gambling on pool is done with the players own money. So the point concerning backers is relevant to maybe 1% of the pool gambling that occurs. Second point, we can play for a dollar on a race to seven. I doubt that that gives either player a significant...
