    Million Dollar Challenge Documentary

I understand that 7.6 million comes from an average B&R probability of 20.5% so 1/0.205^10 = 7,628,891. This is fundamentally flawed from a statistical point of view due to a number of reasons (and I find it difficult to comprehend how a professor of statistics could have overlooked this): -...

There is a reconstruction of this shot on CJ's DVD. I will post a screenshot when I get home after work

Jay, on that DVD, if you go to "Extras", the top left-hand side video will be what you are after. Let me know if you can't find it. Let's discuss further once you have seen the video. Thank you for taking time to reply to my posts.

The reason is very simple - to reconstruct what happened in that match (beyond a simple "Earl ran 11 racks for $1m"). There are so many people with different recollections as to what in fact happened so I felt in need to do so. This thread does not mean to discount any other achievements in...

    Million Dollar Challenge Documentary

With $1m on the line, I would say yes. I'm sure many pros would miss easy shots or mess up position under this sort of pressure. I heard about Archer putting a 13-pack on Bustamante in a commercial match (I think it was for $5k in the middle). And what Bustie did after this barrage of potting...

The most accurate rack-by-rack accounting was provided by Billiards Digest (they just mixed up racks 8 and 9 - Earl sank the nine on the break in rack 8 and broke & ran in rack 9). Here is the full article from June 1996.

Thank you for the link Bob. I got his one pocket and pool trickshot DVDs from Freddy’s daughter a couple of years ago. She may still have few copies left. If anyone’s interested, you can check out at https://freddythebeard.com I think it’s one of the best one hole instructionals out there...

This is consistent with other accounts (e.g. of Bill Meacham for P&B magazine that Earl made the nine in racks 2 and 4). However, he also made the nine in racks 6, 7, and 8. One can see racks 7 and 8 on the video, which I'm sure you will soon confirm once you have looked at it, and also someone...

    Million Dollar Challenge Documentary

I've looked up CJ's website and he currently sells this DVD for $14.95 shipped which I find very reasonable. I think I got it from Seyberts or Bob Henning (don't remember which) for $30. I guess it all depends how badly you want to see it. As I said, I would love to post it up but I don't own...

    Million Dollar Challenge Documentary

Well, what can I say Jay... I gave a rack-by-rack account based on what I had seen in the video. If you think CJ edited it, then my post would obviously be incomplete. It does not look like someone did anything to the video, though (at least, to my undiscerning eye). Further, as far as I...

Great info, Bill, thank you! Earl also said in an interview that he tried to remove any debris from the balls to make them break better. He also washed that towel 10 or so times until it stopped giving off lint. Impressive! I also attach an article you did for P&B with the coverage of the match...

With all due respect Jay this is not what the video shows. Here's a clip of Earl racking for himself in rack #8 (and he makes the 9 on the break in that rack). I hope CJ does not mind me posting this. https://drive.google.com/open?id=1YzKPbN2FT6lRhI6StKMPxXcczszHg1oL

    Million Dollar Challenge Documentary

Apolgies for bringing this old thread to life but I just watched the documentary and the video of last racks and cannot quite get my head around this. The video is 20 minutes long and covers the continuous footage of 6 racks (including the last rack where Earl missed a cross-corner on the one...

Thanks a million Bob. It’s great to see that these clippings from the CSJ confirm the info in my spreadsheet. It would be great if you could find any further info on SRO 14, 18, 20-22, 24, and 25

Thank you so much for sharing your memories Jay! This a great post! May I just confirm the year of the Hollywood Open and the Sands Regent that took place shortly afterwards please? According to my research, the only time Roger Griffis was in the finals of the Sands was in June 1990 (SRO XI)...
