Maryland Straight Pool looking for players

Archer won 150-74 in a really solid match by both players. Archer broke well Schmidt played a long 7 ball billiard and ran 21 before missing tough shot in side with cue on end rail Archer ran 80 and also missed a huge cut in the side Schmidt ran 55 - don't remember what happened Archer ran...

Bobby was in Mike Davis' group. I know Mike won the group so Bobby was probably 2nd or 3rd and should be playing at 10 or 10:30 this morning. Andy

    2011 Maryland 14.1 Straight Pool Championships - July 22-24, 2011

Thanks for the exposure JAM! This story sounds like Peter Burrows "like to have" players at the event. Didn't turn out that way although all of those players have played in the past. "Marquee" names this year include John Schmidt, Johnny Archer and Jose Parica. "Local" favorites Shaun Wilkie...

    2011 Maryland 14.1 Straight Pool Championships - July 22-24, 2011

Schmidt ran another 100 out on Peter Burrows a couple rounds later. Archer, Mike Davis, Bob Maidhof, Dave Daya, Shaun Wilkie, Jose Parica I think all won their flights. Action starts up again tomorrow with 9-24 place players playing at 10:30 with the winners of those matches taking on the top 8...

Maryland Straight Pool looking for players

Hi All, Everything is falling in to place for the big Maryland Straight Pool event in a few days. Play begins Saturday at 10:30 with round robin and Sunday single elimination. Come on out to Big Daddy's Billiards in Glen Burnie, MD and check out the matches. There is a cover charge ($10?) but...

    interesting opening break

Maybe you're right but I'll bet those players didn't have perfect racks which are common now with various new products for racking so tightly. In addition, a better player shouldn't shoot this shot because they are favorites to win the safety battle. So it isn't a surprise that those champions...

    interesting opening break

Ok, I know I'm late on this thread. I think they should not allow a ball on the break in straight pool. On my home table (tapped) I can make a corner ball 75% of the time. Between two really good players playing a typical opening round robin match to 100 that would translate to whoever wins the...

Creating your next shot with caroms

Here's one that comes up a lot. Shoot the 7 and you can't help but bump the 4. But can you bump it the right amount to bounce it off the rail and give yourself an angle to break the cluster? And to take the pressure off I give you the 3 in the side for insurance...

    Creating a high run target

I like Dan's idea of requiring a setup of a break ball. This will add an element of "analysis" to the drill. It seems that the switching from "analysis" to "execution" is a skill that I'm not good at. I played fairly well at the tourney yesterday although I wasn't able to just "let go" and...

    Creating a high run target

This drill was sobering for me in an unexpected way. After just a few tries I ran 9 and 14 racks. So why do I have so much trouble running 50 in straight pool????? My theory is that the drill puts me in a mode of execution without too much thinking. There are just so many ways to get out - just...
