    Some basic that affect everything

Everything I do at the table is what comes natural and I pay no attention to it. If I think too much about fundamentals like that, I might dog it. Some people are the opposite. There is one strange method I have. On thinner cut shots, I aim with the outside of my shaft. Cutting to the left, the...

    best shaft

What's the catch? I'll play you if you come through Portland. Spent two months playing with a house cue at the bar this summer and after the first couple hours I could shoot just as well with it. I'm an A. Any decent player should be able to adjust to the squirt of a cue pretty quickly... I do...

    Bridge Technique

I've seen many top players bridge exactly as you described. I bridge this way as well but rarely curl my ring finger. Whatever is comfortable and accurate. Sometimes players get more caught up in doing things by the book, when really everyone's joints are slightly different and therefore your...

    New tip

Scuffing and shaping aside, a tip will last as long as you like it. I feel that layered tips lose something in the feel after a few months. Can't describe it, but I feel it. On the other hand I feel that single layered tips feel better as they age, assuming you start with a good one.

    Forward stroke power

wtf? Dude... seriously? Develop your stroke by what is comfortable, natural, and relaxed. There is no right or wrong other than the obvious. Watch Tommy Kennedy, Ralph Souquet, and Fransisco... it looks like they are not even playing the same game as each other. I feel like looseness in the...

Cloth / Cloth Color / Dot Sticker

I like tourney blue but color is of course only a preference. If you don't have great lighting, I'd go with blue. It seems brighter. 760 would be terrible on a 7 footer. I personally feel that 860 is still too fast for a 7 footer. You can't let your stroke out unless your rails are dead. There...

    Cue repairmen in Portland, Or?

I have a couple shafts that I would like to have turned down a bit + new ferrules and tips. I'm in the Portland area. I know Craig Erwin in OR City and Tony Counts in Gresham. Just wondering if there are any other repair guys close by? I took a shaft to Greg Sowder in Vancouver WA and he did a...

Top english change to draw after bounces of bottom rail

Why is this thread 7 pages long?? Simple shot, you should be able to do this with a decent stroke. Get higher up on the ball and if you miscue a couple times, oh well. You'll learn to spin the ball faster and in time, you can confidently stroke with max english without having to worry about...

    A rack of 15 8-Balls...

I used to have this issue. The solution for me was simple. On any other shot, most of my attention is directed toward position. Making the ball was more feel than aim. I would choke on the 8 or 9 because I was focusing only on making the ball, which took me out of rhythm. My solution was to put...

    Chalk every shot?

ha ha ha I like this guy ^^^ I've watched matches where a top player looks like he'll burn through a cube of chalk before every shot... maybe the OP isn't the only one who needs some help on the subject lol

    Chalk every shot?

The Earth's axial wobble precession cycle is a little less than 26,000 years. Mayan astronomers calculated that and divided it into 5 ages of 5,125.25 years as the basis of their long count calendar (which is as accurate or more so than our atomic clock). They were brilliant astronomers, as were...

    Chalk every shot?

Depends on the shot and your tip. I chalk up before any shot with a lot of spin. A couple/three times a rack at most usually. I rarely chalk my break cue because I hit center ball, unless the table wants a cut break. In my experience, layered tips require chalking more often; especially hard...

    Beautiful Women Avatars

At the moment, I can't think of anything more pool related than hotties in short shorts. Pool was invented by an old man who wanted to trick young women into playing a game that makes their asses look great. Somebody should correct the wikipedia.

How do you use J/Ps? Whats your procedure?

I prefer to put my P/Js on starting with the right leg. They due a great job of protecting the pin... which is radial:wink: As far as removal; I let my girlfriend handle that. During action, I tend to leave them in a heap on the floor...

Unable to generate much backspin - equipment related?

He said he cleaned the cue ball and problem solved... so... I would say stroke issue. I have a 25 year old Valley cue ball I don't use that is so dirty it's sticky to the touch... can still draw it a table length.

    Tung oiled shaft?

Exactly what I wanted to hear, thanks. I've tung oiled many guitars and they stay insanely slick forever with no maintenance... I thought there had to be a reason to keep people from using it on shafts... I'll try tonight and share my experience in a couple days. I've used plenty of methods to...

    Tung oiled shaft?

This is something I've always wondered about, and I've never really found a good answer. The neck of my guitar is tung oiled, and it stays extremely slick under the use of my grimy hands. Why are shafts not oiled? Anyone have any experiences? I don't have any shafts I'm willing to experiment...

    Jump Shot with Full Cue

You really gotta find the sweet spot on the CB to jump well full cue. Long fingers definitely helps. Lean forward as much as comfortable, keep your wrist very loose and let momentum do all the work, don't try to muscle through it. Practice first with the CB near a rail, as the added height of...
