What makes a good pool player have an out of stroke day?

The other day I was playing great while warming up, then shot AWFUL in my match, then shot great again immediately afterward. I couldn't figure out what was going on, I couldn't run 5 balls. On my APA team, I had not lost a match in about 4 months, I was not nervous, and I was playing someone I...

How much did your playing cue cost?

Paid $550 for my Pechauer. It's a little ugly to my eyes, but it hits awesome and I got it for about 50% retail. Couldn't pass that up. Paid something like $200 for a Lucasi (my first decent cue) and later put a Samsara tip on it for breaking/jumping.

    FS: 1991 Schon & MIke Gulyassy's Anvil

oooo if you still have them when I sell my Pechauer next week I'll gladly take em both (assuming my sale actually goes through). Nevermind, you sold them while I was typing damn it!!! Beautiful Shon!

how often do you give unwanted english?

I almost always put a touch of unwanted left on it when I break full power. If I hit the head ball slightly to the right, I can still stick the cue ball so it's not a big problem for me.

My day just got a little better.

    League 8 Ball (APA)

Very well put. Positioning the balls for an easier break out while playing safe can require a touch and is important to practice. Also, if you're matches are going till 2 am... there is something seriously wrong here!!! I've never seen an APA match go past an hour (maybe a little over)... and...

    1 Handed draw shots

Larry is insane... I tried this and gave up after 5 miscues in a row. I can barely do it with two hands! But this is Larry Nevel... a man who can soft draw 5 rails lol. I've watched matches where the commentators can't stop laughing when he breaks because everyone within a 20' radius temporarily...

Silicone spray on old junk table not worth recovering???

Thanks for the info. Masse on this cloth? nearly IMPOSSIBLE! I can get some pretty wicked masse action on your typical Valley with shi**y bar cloth, but I can barely get an arc on this stuff. This table is literally like playing on a wool blanket. I'll iron it and clean the balls and try some...

    League 8 Ball (APA)

This paired with a safe is a great way to open the table. And if you're playing on Valleys, it's sometimes simple to follow their ball in and make both in those buckets-for-pockets lol. Line up your OB as if it were the CB and you're aiming to follow theirs and scratch. Shoot the OB on that...

    League 8 Ball (APA)

Generally in 8 ball, if you can't run out, find a safe early; maybe it's your current shot or maybe play position 2 or 3 shots ahead to really lock your opponent up... but the more you have on the table while the're shooting, the more difficult their gam will be. Also, look for ways to bump your...

Have you ever met a big name player???

Yeah I've had the pleasure of getting my ass kicked by Jose Parica, Gabe Owen, and Glenn Atwell. Next I'm hoping to be murdered by Larry Nevel.

EXCELLENT way to recondition rough linen wrap.

This was not intended to be an anti wax paper thread lol... just letting people who may be unaware know that high grit sandpaper won't hurt the linen and smoothes it out really nicely. Merely another method of doing things. There are plenty of threads on the pros and cons of waxing your wrap and...

EXCELLENT way to recondition rough linen wrap.

Left handed shots. And touching balls that never get cleaned. Racking. Not washing hands before play... whatever the reason, it's irrelevant. If you don't mind wax, use wax paper. But I'd rather just not bother because the sandpaper restored it to like new and damp rag will clean it just fine.

EXCELLENT way to recondition rough linen wrap.

Wax paper feels great immediately afterward, but is a magnet for dirt... which is a major problem for a bar player (I play for an APA team so 50% of my playing is done on filthy-wool-blanket-cloth covered tables). Also, the wax gets a little sticky on a hot day with a sweaty palm. But wax will...

EXCELLENT way to recondition rough linen wrap.

This may seem like a no brainer to some, but I'm sure most people would be afraid to try this without knowing the outcome first. I have a linen wrapped Pechauer, but I've never been a fan of the slickness of linen on a new cue. So I took an SOS pad to it a couple years ago and roughed it up a...

Silicone spray on old junk table not worth recovering???

Thank you much for the offer Rob, but I'll try siliconing the balls first, as this table is only used for a few shots here and there (my garage is 10-40 degrees this time of year and therefore the table is currently unusable anyway). I have no idea what brand the table is, it is unmarked. Very...

Silicone spray on old junk table not worth recovering???

Thanks for the replies guys. I just found some info that many trick shot artist spray silicone on the cloth and cue ball to slicken it for wackier masse action so I think it will definitely help my problem. One of these days I'll have a place with room for a beautiful 9 footer and this will no...

Silicone spray on old junk table not worth recovering???

I have an old 8' in my garage in horrible condition. My garage is small (can't shoot from the rails) and damp. The cloth is apparently 25 years old and VERY slow. This table is definitely not worth putting any money into (maybe if I had room inside the house to set it up). I removed the rails...

    Unknown "monster" players

There is a kid out here in the Portland area named Tarek, can't be older than 24-25 and says he first picked up a cue THREE years ago. You'd never guess it. I haven't seen him on a full size table, but he is MEAN on a bar box. My APA team played his at a tourney, and he won 20-0 against an 8 in...
