Playing processes, what your best strategies?

I may miss from time to time but I shoot straight.

The social player is the key

If pool could only be found in bars and pool halls when I was growing up, then in all likelihood, I would have never played. I may have hit a ball or two in a bar but probably wouldn't have taken to it like I did as a kid when it was more fascinating. I also wouldn't have had no where near the...

Yes, sir, it was. I'm not a top player.

The social player is the key

I grew up in a town of 12,000. I learned to play in a youth center that had two Brunswick tables. There was a convenient store on the corner that had a game room in the back with pinball, Pac-Man, and a Valley bar box. It closed at 10:30pm every night and that's where I spent most of my...

Playing processes, what your best strategies?

It may not be as complicated as one might think. Top players always come to the table looking at basic elements. Here's some examples: 1. The Liability - Where is the money ball? 2. The Link - What gives the best route to the money ball? 3. The Lap - What does the entire table look like...

The social player is the key

I feel you're right on point in your thinking here. IMO, accessibility is the key for growing the game in numbers first, and mastery of skills will naturally follow along with increased revenues for events. When I started playing in the 80's, I could find pool everywhere, and not just in bars...

Do Most "B" and up Players Need Drills?

I do believe that one can progress by simply playing this game, and nothing more. But I also believe that your progression will take longer than if you practiced or "drilled" regularly in addition to getting your game on. The notion that only gambling will make you a better player has to be...

Do Most "B" and up Players Need Drills?

Wow, another trolling thread from the miserable. Folks, let this be a lesson that just because you're old, doesn't mean you're grown.

Mezz West State Tour at Stiix Ventura:review

Great review and is spot on with my observations of the Mezz tour in San Francisco and Sacramento last season. Looking forward to them coming back to the area in a couple months. Whether you're playing or just watching, it's good times.

Shooting better with no practice strokes

I've had this same experience. It happens when things are not going well and I get frustrated and just start swinging away. All of a sudden, balls drop (or rather, slam) in and I usually get pretty good shape too. What this tells me is that I'm consciously thinking about my stroke when I'm...

    Hats Off To Jay Helfert

bdorman, I believe that while not the same for everyone, the "reference points" are innate within each of us. Our rules are simply a means of control, by other men. What's the difference in suffering consequences of actions versus consequences of breaking a rule? One only teaches to obey a...

    Hats Off To Jay Helfert

Rules and laws are made to be broken. If no one wanted to do something, there wouldn't need to be a rule or law. Rules and laws do not create honesty, character, integrity or in our case, sportsmanship. We have more rules and laws today than ever and yet honesty, character, integrity and...

    apa would be great if....

Luck is what happens when commitment meets opportunity. I've called shots that went in, but wouldn't be able to do it again in 100 more tries. There is a "luck" factor in every game. I like 9 ball for what it is, but I'm not a fan of short races like in most leagues and bar tournaments.
