Just converted and Youtubed my VHS recorded from the original broadcast 27 years ago. Video length is 1 hour 28 mins. Two quarter-finals matches from the 1988 Caesars Las Vegas US 9-Ball championship. Another classic “tuxedo” match from back in the day.

First match is Earl Strickland vs Dan Louie (Pacific Northwest semi-pro champion for about 10 years).

Second match starts at exactly 46:14 -- Buddy Hall in a *very* exciting match vs Bobby Hunter. Great classic “tuxedo” pool playing. A very controversial foul call occurs moments past the 1:03:00 point in the video.

Being from the Northwest, I have always rooted for Dan. I watched him beat Jose Parica twice in the '84 Caesar's Tahoe event. Jose had just beaten Earl out of a lot of money in Houston. Everyone was raving about him. He smiled and said "there is another player in the Philippines that plays better."
In the '80s, Dan was on kidney dialysis and getting treatment and playing in Pro tournaments on the same day. Quite amazing!:thumbup:

I could watch these old videos all day. Couple of things not related to pool.

1.) Those tickers that appeared on the screen at :28 and :58 on every hour were basically out Internet in 1988. Other than being at, watching a game on TV or listening on the radio there wasn't any other ways to get sports scores.

2.) Interesting to see on the ticker "For highlights, tune into Sportscenter at 11:30 p.m." I had forgotten that ESPN used to run Sportscenter at 11:30 because the thinking back then was that they couldn't compete with local 11 p.m. newscasts.

3.) Ticker said someone defeated someone in an 18-hole playoff to win the U.S. Open. That means this was originally broadcast on a Monday afternoon or evening, since U.S. Open playoffs occur the Monday after Father's Day.

It has been many years, so word for word I do not remember. The gist of it was I am not necessarily the best player in the Philippines. He did not mention a name if I remember correctly. Just kind of a little hint.

The '84 Caesar's Tahoe tournament was the first pro tournament I attended. Danny beat Jose 9-8, in the winners bracket. He then seemed to have a let down and lost to a player I thought was much weaker. He then played Jose in the losers bracket and beat him 9-8 again. I Sweated every shot of both matches.
