    This forum has much potential

I don't get your point. Discuss whatever you want. Beats complaining about what isn't here...? And as to trolls and 'giving up': this is the internet, that's what happens. Toughen up and _ignore_ the posts/threads which bother you. Join the pointless arguments, and the agitators win. This...

    chopping

And it was. Those who take the 'high road' on the morality of chopping are not living in the real world. Situations vary, and responses often require taking that into account. Now, splitting and quitting just because it's easy, well, I would think almost all of us agree that's questionable. -s

    chopping

Some ideas on finishing earlier :) start earlier shorter races set a limit on size of field raise entry fee (trust me, this reduces field size) -s

    Another State Tourney

update: 1ab cashes in singles, and team goes deep but no banana :D (steev and bearsafety's team racks up a 2nd place team, complete with the frustration of being double dipped. ugh)

    chopping

Judging by the replies, it's pretty clear when it's ok to skip the finals. For me, if people are there to watch it, it's kinda your duty to play it out. I mean, split the $ if you want, but put on the show as expected. If it's just two guys and a TD after a long day, seems like going home...

    National Rating System....It's Time

What would one number tell you? Maybe you want a whole chart of ratings... Break - Barbox: [0-10] 9': [0-10] 9ball - ... 8ball - ... 1p - ... 14.1 - ... banks - ... (kicking? speed control? where would it end?) matching up is a big part of gambling at pool. getting a clock on your...

Cheating Stories- The Good, the Bad, & the Ugly.

Actually, you're dead wrong. In all levels, up to pro (!), TD's will wait on top players when they're running late. It's been talked about plenty on here, and I have seen it firsthand in everything from a small bar tourney to state/regional events. -s

    Ceiling Fan Blues

From the owner: cue was never slammed, and had no visible cracks or damage. Just sayin'. Notice how the grain runs right with the break there? This break was just waiting to happen. -s

Can you hit the contact point consistenly w/out science or system ?

Yes. I am 'system-less', and I can run three balls in a row. Sometimes more. -s

    Social experiment

Correction: rules read as follows: 1. sh1t counts, call the 8 2. refer to rule #1 3. you must hit your ball first 4. don't f#ck with the quarters keep what you break is understood. you can hit anything first when open, also understood. maybe the rules will change someday, the piece of paper...

CNC Root Cause, Corrective Actions & Lessons Learned

A little chisel work goes a long way, and it's easy to see who's doing the 'little things' to make perfect sharp pockets. +1 -s

    High English Thoughts

Not all great players understand the physics behind what they do. You don't have to be a banger to have misconceptions. Here's a possible reason for said misconceptions: Hitting very high on the ball can reduce the speed (power) of the shot, allowing for a softer hit with the same stroke...

    Running Out of Gas

If possible, unscrew and go home. Best solution. If gambling, face wash, food, beverage. Also, don't chase your money when too tired (or drunk, but that's another story)! If tourney, try to get some rest between matches. Every little bit helps. -s

    Diamond Travel Paths

Just to add some more confusion... The balls are the same size, regardless if the table is 7', 8', or 9'. The cushion nose height is also the same. Without writing out a proof, I'm pretty sure this would affect most of the bank math... -s

    Slow Play

what criteria constitutes being a professional pool player?

A clarification: there are two ways to define 'pro', generally only one applies in a situation. 1) Pro like in the dictionary, makes their living from their art. 2) Pro speed, plays at a 'pro' level. (C,B,A,Shortstop,Pro for instance) These are not the same, and usually 2) is the one which...

    The gambling "lingo"

'I'll play you on the roof' probably means 'I'll bet as much as you want'. and a pick in 1-hole means you can pick up a ball after the break and spot it. allows for more aggressive break shots. -s

    Broadening Horizons

A good solid cue with the stiffness and balance you prefer will play pretty much the same as any other. That having been said, I love the ping sound my cue makes when I hit the ball, and the amount of vibration which gets to my hand. I can feel and hear when I hit the ball well. Personally, I...

When you're opponent pulls a number on you!

That is a nice perspective on gambling. I'll have to keep that in my head when situations arise. Now, in tournaments, it's another matter. -s
