    Holding things headstock

Some great tips here. The idea of using plastic tape or hose are pretty unique. I also watch the overlap when using painters tape. I like painters tape as its sticky residue is minimal, however its a bit soft and thick. Some type of plastic tape(maybe electrical tape) sounds like a good choice. Bob

    Holding things headstock

Headstock does not have run out....its the method of holding the part thats in question. Specifically its the collet I have for working on the butt joint collar, its got some run out. Im asking what are good alternatives to a bunch of custom made delrin collets. Ive seen some cue makers use...

    Holding things headstock

What do you use to hold stuff in head stock? I have split collets and they are ok for some things, but always require a lot of tweaking to get things on center. I sometimes use painters tape, but its a bit too thin. Leather is usually too thick and soft. Id appreciate suggestions on a flexible...

Independence Day Promotion Sales - Pins & Taps (weekend only)

I also got some of the new pins and they indeed look very good compared to the first ones. For the price I think they are good enough for all but the ultra picky. Haven't chucked them up yet to check the run out...will do that soon. I like the barrel grooves and the new minor fits my existing...

Independence Day Promotion Sales - Pins & Taps (weekend only)

The 3/8-10 pins I received look similar. Very poor quality and they dont fit any of the arbors I have. I ordered 4 of the 3/8-10 SS pins and used one of the best ones on a sneaky pete, so the pin was fine for that cue. I also wont be buying more pins unless the quality is greatly improved...

    Polishing white phenolic

Well....Cue Components calls is linen based white phenolic.... http://www.cuecomponents.com/whphjobu.html So...sounds like I need to rough sand again to clear out the existing embedded stuff, then coat with CA, then polish. In my stack of sand paper I think I had a few pieces of carbide...

    Polishing white phenolic

Cleaning/polishing white phenolic is making me crazy. I'm using 3M sand paper, trying to step through grades from 320, 400, 600,1200, 1500. The weave in the phenolic holds particles and its very hard to make it shine like juma. Id appreciate any tips on how to polish the stuff. There's got to be...

    Extension parts

Finally got this project completed. Turned out pretty nice. I didnt get the color matched as well as I wanted, but functionally the extension works great.Making the extension and modifying the butt was a lot more complicated than I expected  Bob

    Dufferin weight reduction

Found an old red leaf dufferin 1 piece bar cue with about a foot broken off. I cut it down to 30". Butt looked pretty clean, so I decide to sand off the clear coat and take a better look at it. A couple of deep dings I can fix. Looks pretty good now, I want to make a breaker out of it. The...

    Tap size

As I said in my original post...I purchased a 12-1.25mm tap and its wrong! The thread pitch on the insert OD is for 14tpi. The information on their webpage is flat wrong!

    Tap size

The thread pitch is 14/inch. So Im pretty sure its 7/16-14 tap. Their description is more than weird...its wrong and useless!

I recently purchased a some inserts from Schmelke. The inserts are for a 5/16-14 pin. The Schmelke webpage says the tap for the insert thread is 12-1.25mm. I bought that tap and its not the correct tap! Does anyone know the correct tap for these inserts...

    Cue archaeology

Whats the best way to remove a hunk of weight from an old Duffrin house cue? With any house cue, if the weight is lose...its easier to remove. What if its not lose?

    Cue archaeology

Was given a bar cue that was headed for the dumpster. Had a broken shaft and rattle in the butt. I decided to drill in and see what the rattle was...assuming it was a lose weight bolt. I was surprised to find this.... I wasnt sure what to expect...but this hunk of steel was the last thing I...

I'll give that a try. I know rubber can be machined if frozen with liquid nitrogen. Im surprised a freezer can get rubber cold enough to machine. Got to be quick too eh? haha Thanks for the tip

    Extension parts

Thanks for the nice pics. Thats pretty close to what Im planning. The cue butt I have requires a special friction fit bumper and has no hole in it. Im planning to burn a hole through the bumper as I dont think drilling or cutting a hole will work. Have any experience burning holes in bumpers? Im...
