    John Schmidt runs 820

I’m a sucker for old school pool. I think the game is less sport than it’s ever been. Soft breaks, template racks, fast cloth, layered tips, jump cues, and carbon shafts have all but destroyed power pool of the 80’s and 90’s that I fell in love with. It’s all bunt shots now. But all sports...

    John Schmidt runs 820

I think there’s a misconception that he just walked into a random pool hall one day and ran 526 balls on a random table. He was hired by Brunswick to promote their products, these tables were prepped ahead of time for him. Good playing conditions were part of the show. He was doing multiple...

    John Schmidt runs 820

By that standard then any World Championship past 1999 with the use of the sardo tight rack and then magic rack is then somehow less impressive than earlier championships. Also Mosconi set his record run on a prepared exhibition table. High runs have always occured during exhibitions or...

    John Schmidt runs 820

Yeah and if my aunt had nuts she’d be my uncle. A lack of incentive has kept people from doing lots of things in pool - especially in the US. If pool paid like golf, there would be a lot more open tournaments than fargo capped events, and way more guys switching cue sports and pushing...

    John Schmidt runs 820

Say what you want about John, but he’s a U.S Open champion and is at the top of the mountain of straight pool runners. I imagine those 5” pockets start to get smaller and smaller as your ball count gets higher, the pressure starts to creep in, and the mental fatigue from focusing over 3 hours...

    Weekly GTA evening tournaments

Facebook is usually the best place to find tournament announcements. I’d suggest following Big Break Billiards, Legends, Golden Break, Corner Bank, and a facebook group called Pool Players of the GTA. There are probably a few others I’m forgetting, but those are a good place to start.

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

It is a shame. Despite not being in the credits, I wish McDermott were more vocal about their cues being used in the movie after it was released. Would’ve been great for sales. I bet Keiths D-17 would be very popular.

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

I ended up talking to Jayme through email - this was his response. “That was all before my time, so I don’t have first-hand experience with it. All I know is McDermott was not featured in the credits, which I’m told was a major disappointment with Jim.” The mystery remains…

Nice! Did it come with the steel joint or did you change it?

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

That’s an interesting take 🤔 it’s possible. Although technically Moselle beat Eddie in their first matchup, Grady beat Vince in their first match, and Amos beat Eddie as well. Moselle was the top guy at Chalkies, and Grady was the number one player in the world using a McDermott. There’s also...

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

Scorsese cameo during the 9 ball break montage. Looks like he’s using a D series too.

Found a D-8 in the two brothers and a stranger scene.

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

My memory is blurry on this, but I think there’s an old thread in this forum where someone knew or had a very good theory as to how McDermott got involved in the movie. McDermott never made it publicly known of their involvement. For the longest time everyone thought they were all Joss cues...

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

Yeah it’s hard to make out. I can see two rings on each end of the butt (one below the wrap and one above the butt cap) that look almost like copper. I thought it may have been a Schon but I’ve looked through so many catalogs and can’t find any matches. Maybe a joss aficionado can chime in as...

McDermott cues in The Color Of Money

Not a McDermott but i’m curious if anyone can identify Earl at Chalkie’s cue? My guess is it looks like it might be a Szamboti, or maybe because of the Joss connection a Bill Stroud Joss West.

    Pagulyan Carbon Fiber shaft?

The players that are actively training and grinding to improve their game are a small minority in the pool community. Most players play league once a week and maybe donate to a tournament on the weekend for some competitive “fun”. Thats the main demographic that’s made Predator and Cuetech...
