John, is the barrel tight in the tailstock housing? There should be a set screw that keeps the barrel from rotating. If this is too loose, the barrel can creep up a bit if the tolerance is not tight. Or, if the screw is too tight, it can bind. Higher quality lathes have a keyway. Put a ground...

I have a shaft come to me with a demolished ferrule, completely smashed. I am planning on replacing it with Tomahawk. There is approximately a 1/8" gap between the end of the cue and the bottom of the cap of the ferrule. Should I do it this way or have the ferrule sit on the end of the cue...

Wrong thread I think the question is what is the thread between pin and insert so he can make thread protectors. It is quite hard to measure, I tried! I did make some on my cnc lathe. Will see if I still have the program and let you know if I find it. Rob

My first butt is ready for final sanding and I am really happy with it so far. I was thinking I would do the pin next, or is it better to do the finishing and do the pin last? My reasoning was that I might mark the finish doing it first. Am I on the right track here? Rob.
