First timer seeks advice on trimming tips

First timer All the "tips" have been good. You'll find that different tips cut differently and you must develop a feel for how you handle the pealers, crumblers and mealy tips. I use a aluminium plate to support the blade. For me, it's all about sharpness of the blade. What ever one you use.

    compressed air dryer

compressed air Another alternative. they have some decent videos. http://www.rapidairproducts.com/index.asp I went this way for ease of installation. Code won't let us use pvc here. Shatters to easily. But I'm in a comercial building, no problem in a home shop.

    3020 3axis cnc machine .....

3 axis Willie Pretty good price. I'd look at some motor mounts. Direct coupling the screws to the motors will kill them pretty quick.

    compressed air dryer

compressed air What's the cycle time on your compressor. The more it runs the more heat cool cycle and such, more water in the air. If it doesn't run much the air in the compressor cools and the moisture settles in the tank, which you should definitely drain daily. I have two water seperators...

    assembly methods

There you go using common sense. Most airlines compartments are only partially heated by circulating cabin air. Designated ones are electrically heated. (That's were the pets go.) Your cue goes where it fits.

assembly On a side note. When's the last time you heard of an unpressurized baggage compartment on an airplane. Usually not temp controlled. But the "tube" is pressurized.

Tap, Tap, Tap maybe we should call it Iowa Ivory.:) Think I have a few inches left of the old Spaulding stuff. I can't tell much of any difference from the now defunct Spaulding to the new stuff.

    Bushka Ring

Some of the stuff that George did was really amazing. I just took apart one of the window butt sleeves he did early in his career. The workmanship was incredible. It still fit snugg. He did some things with the rings that was really well thought out. I had to look at some of the work with a...

    Bushka Ring

With current equipment that is child's play. When George did it, it was craftsmanship. I must admit that I have never seen one of Georges cues where that was done. It can also be done cutting the cue. With modern hi tech materials, the balance would not be changed enough to be noticed.

    Stripping cue help please

stripping cue If I had a few bucks for every cue I've seen that was hacked to death with sand paper I'd be having lunch with Warren Buffet. RAT is right on, there usually is a best way for each combination. Where Rat talks, it's from hundreds if not a thousand completed projects. Most posters...

    sculpted and printed j/p`s anyone?

j/p Very nice design. Hate to imagine the machining time involved with something that intricate. Probably have to do it for yourself. Not many people willing to pay the bill for the programing and milling time. 3d printing may work, but that's a whole other money pit.

    Bowling alley wood

There is a guy in east Texas that makes beautiful table tops out of it. Like any bunch of wood, there might be a few good shaft pieces in amongst the thousands. Not worth the time or expense to go fishing.

    Tired of Masking

Might want to shoot a bit less finish per go around. Notice the inner tube at the face of the purpleheart cue where the finish has sagged. Mupltiple thin coats will work much better than thick coats. Plus you will trap less solvent which can cause shrinkage problems down the road.

Adventures in Linen - (Cortland 9-27)

I don't think it's much different than the other Hurlbert linen. The size is pretty much the same as stock linen. What we were after was the color and green spec pattern. The color was dead on, but due to the number of threads, the green didn't lay out like the original. It's very nice...

Ferrules. Buying rod vs. pre cut

Ferrules I prefer to make my own with live tooling. The premade capped ferrules are usually tapped and the threads don't go as far down as with live tooling. On thru ferrules or smooth bore it doesn't matter. Plus with one piece of rod, I can make a just about any type of ferrule that I...
