Regarding 2), it's ball then rail, not ball and rail. After you hit a ball with the cue ball, either the cue ball or an object ball must hit a rail otherwise it's a foul.

I'm confused. It was gone after a few years, what is it now, is it 17 pts, including the points for the first two, that is 1 + 1 + 15 = 17? Also, I thought the rule was for three scratches in succession. I guess I was mistaken there, any foul can be one of the 3, not just cue ball scratches.

Well, I just got a replacement for the Defy that I received that was defective. It's a Jacoby Black and it screws on perfect to my early 80's Richard Black. Not loose, but definitely not too tight. I think some of the carbon shafts will have tight joints regardless.

Thanks! I don't know a cue mechanic in this area (greater New Orleans) but I'll see if I can find one if the next shaft I get is tight as well.

So I contacted Richard Black and he tells me he uses the standard 3/8x10 pin for cues. Not sure why screwing on the shaft would have been difficult or what that issue might have been.

I keep hearing "outline of the rack" but what is "the rack?" Is the outline the tangent line around the outside of the racked balls, or is the outline of the triangle (often referred to, possibly incorrectly, as the rack) used?
