    Another Farorate thread

Without speaking to the 20% claim, those stats I believe are probably for the 9 on the spot, break box rules. When they could break from anywhere, it was as high as 40-50%.

Do You Find Pros Playing 8-ball Boring?

I think I’ll be in the minority here but 8 ball on the big table has to be winner breaks to be interesting for me. Alternating breaks, I’m just watching to see who makes the first mistake. But at least with winner breaks there is that high run component to see if they can put a big package...

How many hours of lessons should a beginner try to cram into a couple days?

I agree with your instructor about info overload. In such a short time frame the best use of multiple lessons with your instructor would probably to have them act as a coach as you work through your exercises. Having someone there for a couple hours to make sure you are applying the advice...

Players of the past and their Fargo...

I agree that probably the best way to get an estimate is to somehow input historical matches into the system. I’m guessing if you stuck with the Derby, US Open. Sando Regency and whatever accu-stats have in their classic newsletters that would be enough to connect the eras and get those players...

World 10-Ball Championships, Feb-Mar 2024, Las Vegas, The Rio

That the events aren’t on the CSI website is intriguing. If they still have a major hand in producing and promoting you’d want that to be on your website. And then there is also the lack of CSI dignitaries at the World 8 Ball trophy presentation. Finally, a new pro billiard tour YouTube...

World 10-Ball Championships, Feb-Mar 2024, Las Vegas, The Rio

At least it’s not best of 2 sets, I suppose.

Million dollar prize fund for 2024 world pool championship

I hate calling something a major before it’s ever actually run. Wasn't the international championships supposed to be the “fourth major” at one point? And the Grand Prix before that?

is there benefit to increasing table difficulty factor on my home table?

My personal experience is that practicing on a table that is looser than what you compete on sucks for all the reasons mentioned. It’s just hard to feel completely in flow unless you get ample time to warm up, which isn’t always guaranteed. And then, having the same pocket size isnt ideal...

Jayson Shaw 714 World Record 2 years ago

I don’t see myself in the data here. Can you drill down to fractions of percents? I want to know my chances of beating Jaysons record.

Why the Best Players Want Tight Pockets

Knowing this, do you think you would do better next time with those adjustments? Style of play was partly what I was thinking of too. I recently had a match on in the background with two good amateurs who were just totally dialled in and getting out from everywhere. But they used a lot of...

Why the Best Players Want Tight Pockets

Just from watching the matchroom events on 4” pockets, I see pros blowing the first round players out of the water. Probably down to a mixture of being over awed and the pocket size, in this setting the mid 600s are missing routine shots, getting out of line and leaving the pros easy layouts...

Tight pockets are NOT good for the game!

I lean the opposite way, at least for pros. Yes, you lose the ability to do some things but Shaws run showed that keeping big pockets for pro 14.1 is at the expense of tight patterns.

Most $ you've won in one day?

A $1. One time I put my money in and the table released the balls but didn’t eat the Loonie. I call that a win.

Jayson Shaw 714 World Record 2 years ago

For the women, I’d be shocked if Kelly Fisher didn’t walk away with a 160+ ball run after a week. And then Han Yu should be capable of putting up a 200 based on her Fargo alone. Side note, what do we think about having attempts for a 4.25” pocket category? I know, I know, 14.1 on anything...

Jayson Shaw 714 World Record 2 years ago

Id like to see some from the top 20 on the Fargo list who is also genuinely loves 14.1. In other words, a top player who plays it even if isn’t being paid to.

Jayson Shaw 714 World Record 2 years ago

This is silly. Even if you don’t accept Jayson continuing mid-rack, why would you ignore the subsequent racks?

    Slump

I'm working through a slump of my own at the moment. as I’m reflecting, it’s important to recognize if you are going through an execution slump or a thinking one. Or both. Currently I’m hitting the ball quite well but it’s easy to not recognize this since I’m still ending runs with a lot of...

    Turning Stone Racking

They still can, but it wasnt as common before. You won’t see as much of it on the Turning Stone stream because they don’t always have top players (or even pros) featured.

Jayson Shaw First Contracted Pro on WNT

I have a couple of guesses. Marketing first and foremost. Dripping this out keeps them at the top of the Facebook feed and I expect that will lead into promotion of whatever tournament is up next. Second, I can’t imagine it hasn’t crossed their minds that this is also sort of a not so subtle...

Why Doesn’t WPA, Matchroom or BCA Get On The Phones?

True, but that’s a problem all sports are having if I remember correctly.
