how are ya'll doing in league ?

Been playing horribly in league of late. I know what I'm doing wrong, rushing, shooting too fast, not picking a specific shot, not giving each shot it's own prep and execution, kind of all that wrapped up together. Last night prior to league, I played a teammate a quick warm-up game and...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

I get this same sentiment from a lot of people on my teams and from others on other teams too. They all know me well enough to know that I have the same response every time. The APA is a business, and it is run as a business. Once you look at the things that APA does, and view it from the...

how are ya'll doing in league ?

We had our TriCup tournaments this past weekend. From our weekly league, there were three teams for 8 ball, and three for 9 ball that qualified. So of those six teams, one was a complete no-show, one only had four players show up, and the other four went one and done. Not a great showing for...

nine ball changes have changed the game

I learned about a ring game while on a work trip to Shreveport a few years ago. Spent a few nights at a place called Sidepockets and some of the guys there asked me to join in a 10 ball ring game. Only $2 for money balls, which were the 5 and the 10, and we had 6 or 7 guys playing. Don't...

    Chip Tournament

I've played in a local pool room's weekly 8 ball tournament, and when I first went to them, it was described to be as a chip tournament, which I was not familiar with. It cost $10 or $15 to enter. Players were rated or ranked based upon their APA or TAP or whatever league level, and also by...

    It’s not the league

I see a parallel from back when I was much more active shooting Bullseye Pistol. Guys would get into that activity and as much as you wanted to help them, they were not at the point where much of the finer detail things would make a difference. Stop adjusting your sights. First show that you...

    It’s not the league

I'm finding that to get better, you need not only a drive to improve, but a willingness to try a different way, if that makes sense. And a component of critical thinking needs to be a part of it. As an example, last night in 9-Ball league, a SL3 got ball in hand following a scratch on the...

    Funny pic/gif thread...

Placement of the hinges tells me that this must actually be a real thing. Someone photoshopping this asnd having a fourth hinge wouldn't allow the cover to open, but it doesn't have that fourth hinge, Kinda weird and kinda cool too, good for a Halloween party.

Actually, it's special ink that shows up when she gets her chest X-ray. When viewed from the front, the compass points work.

    Earthquake

Maybe this could help balance a few of our league bar tables. Nah, probably not.

    Earthquake

About an hour ago the monitor and the blinds started shaking here at work. Apparently a 4.8 centered in Lebanon, NJ that we all felt. I'm about 175 miles north of that. My sister is 15 minutes from Lebanon and she said she thought a plane crashed next doot, it shook that much.

    Roundest ball ever made

What's truly amazing is that they picked the darkest, most empty area they could find to take that, and look what it revealed. The commonly used analogy for that image is to say that it is an area of the night sky that you would see if you looked up through the inside of a soda straw. It adds...

    Roundest ball ever made

Yes. That's what I meant with that last sentence: <<<And we all know what happened when the Hubble was first deployed.>>> Heard a few different versions of what went wrong. One was that they failed to account for the absence of gravity in space when designing the concave shape of the mirror...

Frustrated with my own slow play in 8 ball

I'm with Justadub in that I too look forward to your posts, and I agree with your philosophy for tournaments or anything more individually oriented. But league play in APA has a few other factors that enter the mix. We have a guy on the team that plays slower than most. He's a really good...

    Roundest ball ever made

The primary mirror on the Hubble space telescope was polished to a level where that same comparison of expanding it to earth size would result in a difference between the high and low spots being only six inches. The Hubble mirror is 7.9 feet in diameter, which is orders of magnitude more in...

    league play

I'd suggest that you go watch a night or two of APA before you decide to sign on for a session. And by all means, please stay for the duration of the session if you do decide to join, you're part of a team on APA, and quitting mid session impacts your team. I suggest watching a night or two...

Pool stick recommendations for a family member $100 - $150

For a new player, the variety of styles, patterns, and designs are going to be a bigger deal than for someone that has been at it for a while. I'd suggest that you tell them to go to Seybert's, or Ozone, or whatever on-line shop, and do the filter with the limit at whatever price you want to...

Having shaft diameter reduced - worth researching "the right shop?"

I did the same thing as Measureman and provided a shaft to be used as the guide for the guy that turned mine down. He took measurements all along the example shaft and then matched my other shaft to that. Turned out fine, and I went from 13 down to 12mm, so a bigger change.

    Hand held jump bridge

Along a similar thought process..... We've got a husband/wife that play on our APA league, and they're great people. He's a 6, and she's a 3/4, floats up and down a bit. When the games are close, and she has a critical shot, they call a time out and he kneels behind the object ball while she...
