    It’s not the league

On the rare occasions I do get beat it’s because I was playing really poorly and/or the other player got incredibly lucky. I’ve never met anyone capable of beating my best game. This psychology has served me well for many years. I just smile when someone thinks they beat me. Poor dumb...

Are Top Level Pool Players Better Today?

I’m a way better player now than I was in the old days.

    Wood Shaft v CF

All wood is susceptible to environmental change, even woods that do ok without a finish such as wenge, teak and rosewood. But your average wood shaft is lacquered and sealed to mitigate changes in humidity, heat and cold. As wood ages it loses its moisture content. Eventually becoming less...

    Wood Shaft v CF

The vagueries of the human experience will influence your game far more than weather conditions will a sealed wood shaft. But, given that guitar necks change in extreme weather conditions, even sealed cue shafts could, too. But we’re talking going from swamp to desert to Baltic conditions. You...

The best stroke/cue action you have seen

I was going to name some old players that no one had ever actually seen play, but I see that’s been done. I’d suggest Albin Ouschan. Perhaps he’s not the greatest player to have ever held a cue, but his stroke is excellent and incredibly smooth & consistent. In snooker it’s worth watching Mark...

    Jump Cue Recommendations

Can recommend the Tiger jump cue. Perfect for dart. https://seyberts.com/collections/pool-cues/products/tiger-wings-jump-cue?variant=41732614979782

    Got my first break cue!

Look at Taom break/jump tips. You won’t know how the ferrule will hold up until you retip and start cracking racks. If the ferrule cracks or splits (unlikely to happen anytime soon), you will need to replace. I’d say don’t worry about it for now.

Practice 8 or 9 more often

Drills and 9. Only play 8 ball to get my arm going. 8 ball seems a waste of a good practice session, tbh.

    Break Cue Tips

Taom break/jump tip is really good. Bulletproof is good, and cheap. For those in the UK, the Cymru break tip is great. Holds chalk well, power transfer is great, never seems to miscue. I also don’t really appreciate phenolic tips.

    FORTIS Owners?

That’s a beauty! I did a walk around the factory with their owner, they have some amazing stuff there, a lot of zebrawood and some striking looking bocote. I quite like their reverse forearm pattern Sneaky Pete’s, I’m going to get them to build me something like this, but with bocote...

    FORTIS Owners?

Nice to hear such a positive experience. I’m thinking of getting a Tiger cue soon - I‘ve had a few cues retipped by them and they are good folks, it would be a nice feeling to use something made in Los Angeles, too :)

How have you been getting on with the Fortis?

    FORTIS Owners?

I’ve played a Fortis LD 12.5 and compared to a Mezz Ignite, XP-Pro and a Revo. The Fortis was really impressive - I only had an hour with it, but the feel of the hit was great - very much like a wood shaft. A satisfying thud sound on shots rather than the Revo ping, if that’s important to you...

    Your favorite pin & why?

Mezz United for me. It’s a solid joint and makes for a very well balanced cue.

    MEZZ CUES

The Exceed cues are beautifully crafted. This is reflected in the prices and lead-time, I guess. I only own Mezz standard production cues - they are a bit of a bargain, I think. Word.

    MEZZ CUES

I have four Mezz cues, which were all bought from Mezz USA. Mezz shows up a little bit on the used market, but seem to hold their value very well as they are quite scarce. You definitely don’t see too many folks shooting with a Mezz in the local APA or BCA leagues. For me Mezz are the best sub...

    Searing Cue

I too think that painting a new Sistine Chapel would be a bigger job than making a pool cue.
